From the previous post, I didn't see any indication that anyone here was running back to PTI to report on the things the previous DT members were saying. It was copied here from FB for the edification of us smackers, and I definitely appreciated being able to read it. I agree - no need to "report" it to PTI.

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
And I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know...

But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Feedom of Speech

Postby NuttyLou » Thu Mar 15, 2012 12:13 pm
Why are comments being moderated and people being been banned from forum when they are not making personal attacks?

Either you have a forum and let people talk or you don't. You can't choose what you want people to say and not say PTI.

I have no idea because I am just some slow Aussie that lives in the outback somewhere.......but don't you guys in the USA have a Constitution or something about Free Speech?

If you have time to moderate the forum and all the comments shouldn't you have time to fix the other problems?

Re: Feedom of Speech

This blog is not public space- it is privately owned by pti and therefore there is no "free speech". If they don't like what is beng said, they have a legal right to remove it. In a private place, there is no such thing as freedom of speech. If you don't like the rules, you can certainly not participate!

Clearly this is more of an issue of misunderstanding the constitution.... I guess my constitutional history class is coming in handy!

If this was a public forum, then I would be in the STRONGEST agreement with you, Lou... I'd be fiercely angry.

However, this forum is NOT a public forum; it's a private forum. As such, the owners of a private forum get to make the rules and enforce them as they see fit.

Whether we think that's fair or not is beside the point. (Not saying that to be rude, but it's the truth.)

An analogy:

I walk into McDonald's and sit at a table and ask disgruntled customers to join me as we talk loudly (and quite often) about how many ways McDonald's has let us down.
Freedom of speech, right?
Wrong.
McDonald's pays the lease on the building and the space.
They ask us to leave.
We say, "No! We know our Constitutional rights!" (Well, in fact, if we're saying this to stay there, we don't know them that well.)
They call the police.
The police arrest us for trespassing.
Are our rights violated? No...their (McDonald's rights) were protected.

I'm thinking of starting a crafting forum this summer. I'll need to pay for hosting, the software, and monthly fees of maintenance.
Somebody joins and because I do something they don't like, they say "TED I do not like how you run this forum and you really need to shape up your practices."
I thank them for their feedback.
They keep going, unsatisfied by my response.
I warn them.
They keep going.
I ban them.

Did I violate their freedom of speech?
Not if I'm the one paying the bill, I didn't.

Again, I'm not saying what the critics here are saying is right/wrong/etc. I'm simply saying that PTI owns the forum; they make the rules; they enforce the rules (as they see fit).

In other words, no court of law is going to back us up if we cry out discrimination, unfair treatment, blocking our freedom of speech.

Hey gals,

Rick (the admin) posted in another thread about what's happening with the forum. It's a technical issue and seems to be randomized. From what I read, it doesn't sound like they are intentionally banning people from the forum.

Not a problem Ted! Your analogy is cerrtainl helpful.

It just angers me when people claim to have their personal rights violated (freedom of speech) when in fact it is a prvate company- I guess its just a clear lack of understanding of how the constitution works!

Furthermore, it seems that calling this a constitutional problem is just simply being incendiary, overly dramatic and unnecessary!

I admit to knowing nothing of the Constitution, but I disagree with the censorship.
If there is a 'place where people can talk' then who has the right to pick and choose what people say?
PTI may pay for this space and they may choose the rules by which they run it - no problem - but it's wrong to ban/moderate people that disagree with you opinion. "We are only going to allow happy posts and nice people here that don't ask any hard questions".
I see it like a political debate in a way - but once you hear something from someone you don't agree with, you just can't mute their voice.

I don't think it's right - that's just my moral stand point.

I think it's a totally different story if there are personal attacks.

Thats how the constitution works in the USA! You own the site, you determine what can and can't be said. Not a moral thing at all, its just the law. this is not a political debate, its a privately owned message bored and the people who write the check for the fee every month decide what can be said.

And if you know nothing about the constitution, then I am not sure why you even suggested in your original post that this is some type of constitutional issue- the tone of your post certainly hinted that this was a violation of freedom of speech.

I didn't take NuttyLou's questions as being incendiary, overly dramatic or unnecessary. She asked why all of a sudden things are being moderated as heavily as they have been today and about people being banned. While I do agree that PTI does in fact own the forum and has the right to delete/moderate things here, I think you may have jumped the gun a bit on NuttyLou. She CLEARLY said that she's an Aussie and asked about free speech. I think the point she was trying to make was that instead of moderating the forums so much, wouldn't spending that time fixing the website and customers issues have more precedent.

NOT everyone in the biz loves Nichole. Quite the opposite. Quietly, other stamp company owners will admit they can't stand her and she has a rep for being a bitch.

Case in point the cruise that Stamping Bella, PTI and Gina K all arranged when they were all member companies on SCS. This was years ago.

I think the reason PTI is in the mags is because the designers chose to submit using those stamps. It has nothing to do with if the mag editors like Nichole or not.

What was the story behind the cruise again?

Anonymous said...

I think it's about designers choosing to use PTI for their mag submissions too. Nothing to do with a love for Nichole. I think there has been quite a lot of 'please notice me Nichole' submissions. Which haven't worked!. But I think if things don't improve soon at PTI (and I don't personally think they will) I think mag designers will start falling away from using PTI. If Nichole was on a downward spiral other stamp businesses, I think she is now on the same path with the wider industry. I think she had a good run whilst it lasted.

Anonymous said...

Yes, what was the story about the cruise?

Anonymous said...

sorry ..... with other stamp businesses

The story with the cruise was all 3 companies got together and sponsored a 3 or 5 day cruise (I forget). Stampers bought tickets and part of the package was stamping goodies from all 3 companies, classes, meet and greet type stuff. Hundreds of people went to this event.

It was WIDELY reported back that Nichole was a total bitch and very rude to people. Same ole, same ole.

I don't think anyone knows the real story behind the cruise, but the minute it was finished Nichole went home and removed Gina K from her blog links...the Bella person too I think

Shipping Update

by Admin on MARCH 15, 2012 in SHIPPING POLICIES
I’ve had several customers email me regarding the length of time it’s taking to receive their orders from our release last Tuesday night. I know that while only a few of you have taken time to contact me there are many of you who may be sharing the same concerns, so I wanted to take a moment to update all of you.

As I mentioned in this post, consistent issues necessitated us moving away from First Class USPS mail, so this release was primarily shipped via FedEx Smart Post. FedEx Smart Post offers the FedEx real-time tracking, with the last leg of delivery provided by the USPS. In theory, it offered the best of both worlds; reliable tracking and affordable cost. In practice it has offered both of those, but has offered a third attribute as well; delayed shipping times. Many orders that would’ve been received by now via USPS are still in transit. And while we know that not every customer has been affected, it is our priority to treat each customer as if they are the most important person we will ever serve, and this delayed delivery time is not acceptable.

Going forward, we will not ship orders via FedEx Smart Post. Instead we will ship USPS Priority Mail (insured) and FedEx Home Delivery. Both of these methods will offer the transit times you are accustomed to, while still affording the reliability and accountability we need.

I have also received several emails regarding our flat postage rate of $6.50 for US orders, so want to address that as well. While I understand that it seems expensive when ordering an item or two, I want to go over the thought process behind this charge so you will better understand how we have arrived at this figure. USPS currently charges $4.90 for a flat rate envelope via Priority Mail, and with our new shipping policy, we are insuring each order that is shipped via USPS, which is a minimum of $.80 per shipment. The insurance cost goes up in tandem with the amount of products purchased, but again, the minimum charge is $.80 for the insurance Company we use.

We are one of the few Companies that does not increase shipping cost for orders containing card stock even though we must pay additionally to ship these items. Not only do we incur the cost of each box (which can range from $.40 up), we ship these orders via FedEx Home Delivery which varies between $8 and $12 per order. Which is also right in line with the Priority Flat Rate Box price through the USPS of $10.85, plus the additional insurance cost.

Rest assured, we are fully committed to offering you the very best in customer service and expedited order processing. We have also been extremely disappointed in the transit times with FedEx Smart Post. Brianna made an astute comment today in our staff meeting, stating how very frustrated she was in working so hard to ensure that every release order was shipped within hours (she was at the office at 6am Wednesday morning) only to have it take a week for orders to arrive once they had been shipped. Please know that while it is not acceptable to you, it is also not acceptable to us.

Please know that this post is not in lieu of a personal email response by me. It is simply to communicate with all of our valued customers MFT family.

YOU are the most important customer at MFT, and we will continue to serve you the very best way possible!

(part 3)

I have to jump in on the Papercrafts discussion. I had heard a long time ago that NH was on the editorial board for PC. This I'm sure has a huge impact on why their magazines are flooded with PTI products (and why I don't buy them anymore). Here's a link to some of NH's earlier posts. . . one about a gathering of staff for PC, and before that there's one where she speaks glowingly of many other women in the industry. I am not surprised to read that she had a falling out with some of them but you'd think she'd go back and delete this! Anyway...read for yourself:

http://nicholeheady.typepad.com/capture_the_moment/the_industry/page/2/

This is in the right hand sidebar of NH's blog under the heading of the "industry."

She's full of herself and it looks like now her head has gotten to big to even think straight.

First problem of the night. Set up to place an order for cardstock and some ribbon not from this release. It would not take my reward points, but did take my Visa, so I ended up with an order without being able to use my reward points as it had already gone through. So, instead of being totally done forever with PTI, I still have the darn reward points and paid (which I had not planned for) with my credit card. It also would not take PayPal tonight. Is anyone else able to use up their points.

Argh! I am on the PTI site (not to buy but to peruse), and I cannot understand how to see this month's release. WTF?

steph is one of those people who probably can't go five minutes in a conversation without mentioning "med school" just to make to make sure everyone knows she is better.

Anonymous said...

so, is it me or is the website completely fucked now? maybe if we all hit refresh 100 times it will completely crash.

Anonymous said...

Home page may not be live but with a little detective work it's easy to see this month's shit, for the stamps(just work the id numbers backwards, 2503, 2502, etc). If you look at the dies, you can see the same pattern and find them as well. They've been up for at least an hour or so. --

A friend just emailed me to say besides the reward points not being accepted, the state drop down box is also still not working. What DID they fix??

Anonymous said...

Okay people what the hell is going on? Are people on this blog seriously placing orders tonight?

I said "mock" order......just seeing how fucked up the site is.

I didn't order, just curious. Still cannot see the home page yet myself.

MFT Changes to Quicker Shipping Method
by The MFT Lady

Settle down 19:17, just fun to see if they actually fixed anything. And obviously theydidn't. The lies continue...and yet people on the forum seem to be surprised they are having trouble?

Anonymous said...

LOL..I am about to bust a gut with my laughter over here.

I am so tickled by how some ppl are getting upset that others may be ordering tonight!

LOVE you guys! Way to look out for each other! Please keep reminding ourselves NOT to order from PTI!

Anonymous said...

I am trying to order if only to use the GC's and reward points I have before this company goes up in flames cuz Mrs. O'Leary's cow has kicked the lantern on PTI. Anyway, I have not ordered off the new website...I totally get the frustration now. Hello....if you say you FIXED the state drop down, then fix it for longer than 10 seconds. I'd like to be done with your company but I guess you don't want me to put the order through. What the frack???

yet another awesome customer service response from PTI. No wonder it takes them weeks to respond - they are always looking out for how to be "right" that they lose sight of the spirit of things. Bastards

SMART people are trying to cash out their rewards and be done with it. They deleted my rewards but had no way of knowing that because I had to put the CC information in first and it would not give me a Paypal option (which would have given the reward box first). No matter. I am DONE and they can have the reward points that they made disappear from my account in the last few hours. I think they anticipated and shut down some options to keep people paying $ instead of points.

Anonymous said...

Clozuck's order went through without a hitch! Lucky her....she acts like everyone else must be lying.

Anonymous said...

Not one smidge of sympathy for any forum member who has a problem ordering tonight (except those trying to finish off rewards points or a GC) and then starts whining.

I hadn't received my refund either, and after PMing Danielle earlier today, she got back to me with this quote from Nichole:

"According to our records her order total was $71.00. The coupon discount would have been for $3.55, which would have brought her under the threshold for free shipping. Since she received free shipping (which is equal to more than her $3.55 discount would have been), she does not qualify for a refund. In other words, if the coupon code would have worked, her order total would have been $67.45 and she would have been charged the $6.50 flat shipping rate bringing the total amount to $73.95. Since she only paid $71 and the greater discount was the free shipping, we left it as is which provides her with a better benefit."

That's all well and good. I understand.
I just really wish that Dave had mentioned that in his reply to my email inquiry, instead of informing me that I would be getting my refund.
I would not have spent time each day checking my credit card looking for my invisible refund.

I post this in hopes that it might help someone else explain what the "hold up" is.

Just e-mail customer service with an order issue. This is on the auto-reply. And it made me laugh my ass off...big time.

ORDER CHANGES OR ADDITIONS: Because of the speed at which we ship things out (often the same day the order is received) we cannot accept any order changes before your package leaves our facility. Many times, once we have
received your email, your package is already well on its way. This policy may seem frustrating to some, but in the end it helps us to keep shipping at the speed we have become known for.
