catching this before 200

whee!

I'm not sure why hexagons are so trendy :\  First they tried the triangles... And now they jump on the hexagon bandwagon too. Anyone else 'meh' at this release?

Good morning!! Thanks PTI Smacker III for new space.

Anonymous said...

I think its alot of work and very time consuming. I dont see myself making more than one card i will pass!

Anonymous said...

I will have to wait for the full reveal for final judgement, but so far the Background Basics: Rainbow set does nothing for me. I think it's kind of ugly.

Re: 'Should I be offended?' thread

NH trolls the forum for new ideas, we all know that, but there's no way she copied Shelly's hexagon idea?
Don't believe that for a minute!

BTW, that cut file is mine! Heck of a lot cheaper than $17 for the metal plate!

Anonymous said...

Up until today, nothing was cathcing my eye. BUT . . . I really, really like the new sunshine impression plate (especially side two). Trying to think about how much use I would really get out of it.

Anonymous said...

Don't know about the timing of the hexagon thing (have to factor in manufacturing time and quality checks, etc.), but I don't fault Shelly for feeling the way she does.

Anonymous said...

It was mentioned that a stamp can be submitted to the manufacturer and PTI would get it in three weeks, I don't see how an impression plate would be any different. The stamp set might have been done already months ago, after all Rosie Posie had hexagons, but the IP more than likely is a blatant copy of Shelly's idea.

Anonymous said...

This is my guess (I'm not a PTI insider, but Ive worked in the stamp industry): I think they saw the positive reaction to the hexagons in Rosie Posie and then decided to expand the idea. I totally think they copied Shelly. They have the clout with their suppliers to get something done last minute if needed.

Loving everything this month.

Anonymous said...

That "safe and sound to us" sounds really awkward to me. Is it grammatically correct?

Anonymous said...

Has the "should I be offended thread" been removed from the board? I don't see it. If they removed it, there is your answer--busted.

Anonymous said...

Shelly changed the title and also some of the content.

Anonymous said...

5:08, you said quality checks....bahahahahahaha! You are so cute! =)

We've seen so many examples of how PTI does not waste time on silly quality checks.

6:41, I think they will let that thread go without being locked. Locking it would make them look guilty and since nothing is ever their fault, they are incapable of guilt.

It should probably read, "Please hurry home to us safe and sound" instead of "Please hurry home safe and sound to us." Yet another example of, well...preaching to the choir here...

Anonymous said...

Nothing like splitting infinitives. I'm on board with the poster in the last post who said they hate the phrase "on trend". Hate it! I also hate the art deco background stamp. Way too damn busy.

For those with a Cameo:

Here is Shelly's hexagon cut file for $2.29.

That's what I'll be getting.

Anonymous said...

A brave soul should start a thread on grammatically awkward sentiments. Not me! I am a scaredy cat!

Anonymous said...

I just checked out paper threads website. That hexagon file would be the ONLY thing I would buy from them. Is it just me but I find the rest of their stuff cheesy? (for lack of a better term).

Anonymous said...

I didn't see the original thread by Shelly as I don't frequent the forum. And I didn't bother to go to her blog to see what she was selling. BUT, if she or any of you thinks PTI copied her idea to use hexagons in a stamp set y'all are off your effin rocker!

Have you seen Pinterest, MME paper lines and many more in the last 4 months?!? The hexagon craze was coming down the pipe LONG before the beginning of May when Shelly posted to her blog.

Sorry Shelly (whoever you are). PTI isn't copying YOU, they are just jumping on the Hexagon bandwagon like you and everyone else has!

Anonymous said...

IMHO those hexagon cards by shelly weren't eye-catching enough for Nichole Heady to blatantly copy... You actually think she was scanning the member galleries, came across those cards and went, "i'm gonna rip that off!"??

I am no lover of NH, but I find that whole sequence of events kinda sketchy..

Anonymous said...

I think "please hurry home" would make any soldier feel like crap. Don't like it one bit.

This woman in "should I be offended" -- she has a store. Wonder how many hits she's gotten after this. And it didn't take long for her to be appeased. I think she was trolling for customers.

I like the sun ray IP too. But I don't buy PTI.

Anonymous said...

P.S. Just how many different ways do you think you can do a hex background?? She didn't invent the "wheel."

Anonymous said...

I think she was trolling for customers.

^^^ Yes, exactly what I thought too.

Anonymous said...

That's probably true 08:35, I remember seeing Mel post hexagon overlays on her blog last year. I read a lot of blogs, and hers was the first time I remember seeing a hexagon pattern. Not saying she was first, just the first time I've seen it.

Dawn and her shit-tastic color combinations! She wasn't always this bad, what happened?

Chris Simon said...

I don't know either, 9:40. I wish Dawn would make some cards that aren't either orange/pink or blue/green. Sometimes she gets crazy and adds either kraft or yellow to these, but honestly, it looks like she has run out of all other colors and not restocked.

Anonymous said...

Dawn hasn't done anything I've liked in a long time. Her color combinations are awful. It seems like she uses the same layout for every card.

Anonymous said...

9:57, I was just gonna say that. I feel like I am looking at the same ole card rehashed over and over.

She used to be my go-to for card inspiration. But now, you can look at 1 or 2 cards from a month ago and get an idea of what she has done since!

Anonymous said...

"but honestly, it looks like she has run out of all other colors and not restocked."

^^

Chris, you made me laugh so hard!

Anonymous said...

Re: Dawn... Ditto!! I used to LOVE her blog. She was at the top of my google reader and I would always look forward to her creations. Now it's all that hot pink colour (sorry, i'm not a colour name-memorizer) with other "bold-brights" mixed in and it is literally the same formula each time.. (except that card she posted today with the rustic white base.. that was nice!)

Anonymous said...

I placed a small PTI order last Thursday morning. I received my order today, fastest shipping ever from PTI. Granted, I'm in Iowa so not far to go, but still fastest ever.

Anonymous said...

Well, I think I'm going to break my PTI ban and place a Stamp-A-Faire order. I have a bunch of $5 sets I want, a couple packs of cardstock and I really do like the free stamp set. Nichole's SAF stamp post really got me.

Ugh, please don't let there be any issues...other than shipping times.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone have any of the new inks? Care to share your review? I'm placing an order with Stampin Up but they just don't have any good purple colors. I'm thinking about getting some ink from PTI but I'm worried.

Anonymous said...

I think that a lot of designers are great at a certain style but then have trouble straying from what is comfortable. In some cases, when they try, their efforts are less than pleasant.

It's so much easier to stick with the style that got them recognized in the first place.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of grammatically awkward sentiments. Nichole included information about A Million Thanks in her blog post and she said: "It is their goal to see that our military – active, reserve, and veterans – receive these messages, whether they are serving at home, abroad, or are injured in hospitals."

We have military injured in hospitals? How are they injured in hospitals? Slip on wet floors? Trip over stuff? I think "injured and in hospitals" would have been less awkward. I'm nit picking, I know. But I'd have gotten reamed for that in English class in high school. Hell, I'd have gotten reamed for that in junior high. That woman needs a copy editor.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure this will offend some, but I blame her grammar on being from the south. She may be a great crafter but she doesn't seem well educated in grammar or business.

Anonymous said...

^^^ That's funny, I see people from the North with awful grammar all the time.
How the heck can you stereotype a demographic like that?! And I'm not even from the south!

Chris Simon said...

NH may live in the south, but if I recall correctly, she grew up in Maine. I think it was around her 30th birthday when she posted a bunch of things about women who were significant in her life that she also had a lot of childhood pictures and stories. (Yeah, remembering that proves that I've got perfectly good real estate in my brain being wasted on stuff that doesn't need to be there.)

Anonymous said...

I think the new inks are pretty much your average dye inks. Can be troublesome on large surface area clear stamps. The colors seem ok. The lighter colors seem to be a smidge darker than the cardstock. I'm ok with that because a true match to sweet blush would be hard to see on white paper. I can't speak to any of the color changing/color issues that've been mentioned. I haven't been stamping much & haven't gone back to look at anything I've stamped with them.

Anonymous said...

I feel your pain, Chris.

Last night I sat and looked at my phone for about 2 minutes trying to remember what I had wanted to check. Half an hour later I remembered I had wanted to check the forecast.

Meanwhile I too can remember some completely useless bits of trivia read/heard years ago.

Anonymous said...

My grammar is far from perfect. I'm not usually worried about casual communications, but when I have to write things for the workplace website or print publication, I always have someone else proof it.

But, I do think that since we see more mistakes everywhere, it is easy to assume that the incorrect usage is correct, and it snowballs.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, 11:42, you're way off base. Nichole grew up in Maine and didn't move to the south until she was a married adult. You're just revealing more about your own ugly and unfounded prejudices than telling us anything about Nichole. Nichole's grammar has little flaws here and there, but it is nowhere near as bad as what I see from many other people. And at least Nichole has stunning design talent. No one excels at everything.

Anonymous said...

Bad grammar happens all over the country and I am guilty of it when I'm typing fast etc. But I'm sorry, if you are manufacturing stamps and selling sentiments to thousands of customers, wouldn't you check and recheck? Hello QA?

Anonymous said...

anyone else having trouble accessing the forum?

Anonymous said...

Yes, forum won't load for me.

Anonymous said...

When writing for business, I expect perfect grammar. Call me harsh, but that's what I expect. When selling sentiments, I do not expect to see split inifinitives.

If NH's blog was her personal blog and not her buisness blog, "injured in hospitals" wouldn't be a big deal. The "hurry home safe and sound to us" sentiment wouldn't be that big of a deal. (and I agree with whoever said it will likely make a soldier feel even worse).

For the record, I was born and raised in the south. So pfffffft to you.

Anonymous said...

Where is the split infinitive? Someone earlier implied it was the "hurry home safe and sound to us," but that is not a split infinitive.

Anonymous said...

Changing subject ..... someone mentioned forum down and I checked - no problem getting in. I really thought I should stay away until they get a "hover" feature but .... clicked on "Americana" thread.

Remember when some of us were griping about Leigh and her attention-getting need to comment?

The question is: Postby lilybean » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:31 am
"I don't know how many of you love July and all things red, white, and blue like I do, but this time of year, I could just swim in it! Do you make a lot of themed projects for this time of year and holiday?

If so, share them with me, or share with me a project you can't wait to make...doesn't even have to be paper-craft related."

So what does Leigh write?

"I actually love seeing Americana projects -- the ones on Nichole's blog this morning were gorgeous!
However, being Canadian, I don't make this kinds of projects, personally."

WHY? Why does she have to post this stuff? Are there that many people who really care if she likes it or not?? I think the point was to share American-themed projects, right?

that irritates me. vent over.

Anonymous said...

well, duh, the next one did the same thing.

I guess there are some Danes who just like to see themselves write. :-S

Anonymous said...

ROFL!!! And the third!!!! HAHA. I guess the jokes on me.... must be the, "Any of you non-Americans have something to say about Americana?!"

Anonymous said...

thread.

(and joke's on me)

Anonymous said...

This is why I should stay out of the forum.

Another PTI fuck up! And, did Nichole copy and paste duplicate info???

PLEASE NOTE:
This message will be circulated via our newsletter mailing list tomorrow morning as well.

It has recently been brought to our attention that there was an error made when preparing the Stamp-a-faire Tote Collections as well as the Add-on Supply Kits.

TOTE COLLECTION:
The Tote Collection inadvertently got prepared with the extra supplies needed for the Camp Card Set portion of the event rather than the Make & Take Kit, as advertised. This is actually a humongous benefit to the customer because you will have gained $62 in merchandise, which we are allowing you to keep free of charge. The extra items in the tote include:

White Notecard Set
Large Glassine Bags
Nugget Tin
Half & Half die (with point)
Berry Basket die
Edgers #4 dies
Brown lunch bag
Paper Basics Clear Card Box
Fillable Frames #10 die

The Make & Take Kit ($3 value) containing cardstock and ribbon necessary for a few of the projects, was left out of the bags and we will be sending a replacement out to you in the next few weeks via First Class Mail. All of the customers who ordered the Tote Collection will have this Make & Take Kits mailed automatically, you DO NOT need to contact customer service.

Moving forward, all Tote Collections have been corrected and they will be shipping with exactly the advertised contents.

ADD-ON SUPPLY KIT:
The Add-on Supply Kit inadvertently got prepared with the Make & Take Kit rather than the extra supplies needed for the Camp Card Set portion of the event, as advertised. We apologize for the shortage of items you are missing and we are currently preparing a second shipment to get you the following omitted supplies as soon as possible. All of the customers who ordered the Add-On Supply Kit will have this correction made automatically, you DO NOT need to contact customer service.

White Notecard Set
Large Glassine Bags
Nugget Tin
Half & Half die (with point)
Berry Basket die
Edgers #4 dies
Brown lunch bag
Paper Basics Clear Card Box
Fillable Frames #10 die

The Make & Take Kit ($3 value) containing cardstock and ribbon necessary for a few of the projects is included in your original shipment and it is for you to keep. Moving forward, all Add-On Supply Kits have been corrected and they will be shipping with exactly the advertised contents.

We apologize for the inconvenience our error ma have caused. Please be assured that we are taking care of every detail of resolution to the best of our abilities.

Anonymous said...

Ordered Stamps of Life on Friday and they were in my mailbox when I got home from work today.

Anonymous said...

What?! A mistake?! In PTI land?! Say it's not so!!!

It was just a matter of time.

So glad I didn't order any of that crap.

Anonymous said...

Nichole did not allow anyone to keep anything. Postal law says that if you are sent something you did not order, that it is yours to keep. PERIOD>

Anonymous said...

"which we are allowing you to keep free of charge"

===================

All I have to say is that Nichole would have to have balls that clank to ask for the stuff (sent in error) back!

Anonymous said...

I think it is Nichole's level of social skills that is part of the problem. In addition to grammar, she has no idea how things should be said correctly. "Allowing you to keep at no charge" is poorly said. It would have been simpler for her to say, "This is our mistake. Enjoy the extras on us!"

Anonymous said...

1556 thanks for the chuckle!

Anonymous said...

Drat...should have ordered that damn tote. Though, with my luck it would have been short $62 in merchandise rather than over. I agree 16:08 that it is her level of social skills that causes her to word stuff the way she does. "Allowing you..." stuck out as a glaring error to me right off the bat, too.

Anonymous said...

So can we guess how many wrong kits went out with $62 a freebies? :-)

There must be some real idiots packing orders or their employees are sabatoging them!

Add that 2 the list said...

"Allowing you" sounds like this was all under her far reaching control. Like we could force you to return it. But, if she asked I bet her faithful followers would've happily sent it back on their dime. Afterall, it's the least they can do for her royal highness of all things inky.

Anonymous said...

From that Facebook screenshot it appears that people are asking Christine for copies of a Magnolia book instead of purchasing it themselves? Is this woman making copies of copyrighted material and giving it to her friends? I don't know the whole story, but that's what it looks like to me, and I hope she's been reported to Magnolia.

Anonymous said...

17:49, you can't read.

I know the blog I linked to isn't a smack blog.

I said I found the link at the other smack blog.

Reading comprehension. Get some.

Anonymous said...

Anyone else about choke when they read that SAF update email from Papertrey?? Each customer is inadvertently getting $62 with of extra merchandise in their tote. OMG ... even a smack blog can't make this sh*t up!!!

Anonymous said...

^^ okay, I see now that I was a little late on reporting that news ... but the smack blog is always the first place I run to in times like these (PTI screw-ups) ... which pretty much means I am here weekly.

Anonymous said...

The PTI hexagon line is fun, but too expensive for me. I can't see myself making enough hexagon cards to justify $21. Plus I don't know how long that trendy trend will be 'on trend'. (Hate those phrases too)

Anonymous said...

18:44--yes! When I saw the subject of the email I was wondering what else they could be updating about. I thought maybe they were rescheduling again!

Anonymous said...

I think hexagons are pretty timeless. Kind of like circles. You can always use them. They also have a more modern graphic edge and look great on masculine cards too.

Anonymous said...

This latest debacle is just too much. Everyone here predicted it and yet I really thought every effort would be made to NOT SCREW UP this time. I've been *this* close to ordering from them again but I just can't bring myself to do it.

You know it's really very sad. And I don't mean for the fans/customers, but it's such a waste. To be in a position to create an incredible company like this (I don't think they ever reached the level of incredible before things began to spiral downward), and throw it away on stupid mistakes.

Anonymous said...

First- I thought what awesome karma PTI for overpricing that bag in the first place!!!
Then, I remembered how cheap they are at labeling things -cards basics one and two fiasco anyone- that I wonder if THIS is the screwup that will finally make them realize that labeling things properly - dies, buttons, etc- might save then a big $62 per person hassle down the road

Anonymous said...

You know, it's not really a customer service issue...... wonder if anyone will start a thread about it on the forum and how fast it will get locked or deleted.

And you can't say it won't be a happy thread - we know NH has said they want to keep the forum happy. But I bet some customers are damn happy to get $62 worth of stuff for free!!

Take a bow, PTI!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

When there are things like the Angela-Christine thing I consider both equally guilty for participating in such a feud that escalates to that point.

Anonymous said...

Grammar issues aside, "hurry home safe and sound to us" sounds horrible!
Hurry home to us? Yeah, because I'm sure they don't think about how much they would love to just hop on the next plane and get the f@#& out of there! "Hurry home!" "Ok. Be right there!"
FLOL

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but if that woman being bullied truly has gone to the police, and FBI as she claims and they are taking care of all this, I can't imagine they'd be too happy to know that she posted all that stuff on her blog. I do not know the whole story, but frankly it sounds like she needs to just shut-up. If she's so much higher and mightier than the person bullying her, she'd be much better served by holding her tongue.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I'm bothered by the "hurry home" sentiment, too. Like they have a choice --- hmmmm, should I leave today or tomorrow or next week?

A new company introducing heavy weight card stock, matching grosgrain ribbon and clear stamps: http://www.averyelle.com/
Looks promising!

Anonymous said...

Avery Elle does look promising. I may have to try their cardstock, the prices are almost as good as PTI's.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the Avery Elle link. Looks very promising!

What a great website. I love that it's similar to Wplus9's. I have to question why a brand spanking new company can have a top notch website but a seasoned company like PTI cannot. Really baffles me.

My cart is also dumping. And I noticed that the forum is getting spammed again. Way to go PTI team! I see you are going in the same direction you always have been. Backwards.

The crap-a-fair fiasco cracks me up. So no one took a peek into the bags all lined up in a pretty row right before they were packaged up and shipped out to make sure they had the right shit in them????

If you are going to be dumb you'd better be rich. What an expensive error for them to make. It's the expensive mistakes that are the best teachers and I hope the lesson isn't lost on them.

Yes, "allowing you to keep the items" sounds truly condescending but it's better than their normal "send it back to us in a SASE and we'll get the corrected bags to you sometime before Jesus returns."

That is a rather huge improvement me thinks.

Anonymous said...

What are your thoughts on today's items? Nichole must be taking the Dawn McVey class on color selection because that first card is truly hideous.

The second card hit the mark for me. And is actually making me want the lovely layers set and dies.

Is it me or does the flower she created in the winter wisteria card look like it needs a button or something in the center? It's nice though.

Dawn's melon berry card is nice even though I hate melon berry. It looks good with brown.

I actually liked Melissa B's 2 cards today.

And the more I see of Dawn's set the more I'm really liking it. Damn them! LOL

Equally, the more I see of Natural Beauties the more I LOATHE it.

Anonymous said...

Mother F@!$#! My cart is empty too! And after Rick came on here and told me my cart wouldn't dump if I updated my version of Firefox (which I did.) I swear, I don't even know why I bother.

Each time my cart dumps and I have to go find things again, PTI is losing $$. Most times I can't remember what I wanted and don't want to suffer through finding it all again. I'd say PTI has lost about $1000 in sales from me this year. Thanks guys!!!

Rick, get that shit fixed and pronto!!! I can add things to carts from other online stores and not have to play the "what version of which OS/browser are you using" game. Someone is feeding you some bullshit about it being harder than it really is. Do your company a favor and actually fix something on that website.

Or maybe they just don't need my $$.

Anonymous said...

My cart is dumping too.

I actually like Nichole's first card a lot, except for the dark card itself. All the layers and the colors of the layers are gorgeous! That die is outrageously expensive.

Anyone else notice that their die pricing makes no sense? Sometimes they have a $5 I would pay $10 for and other times a $20 that looks like a $6 die to me.

Hate the melon berry card.

Donna C. said...

Hey, Rick! My cart is dumping too.

The reason they can't get a web site that WORKS is because they only hire current and former family members. So if you are not a Heskamp you can't work for PTI. Whether you are more qualified makes no difference.

BTW, does anyone think 'Prudence McNally' will actually get a prize if random.org picks her # from today's comments on Nicoles blog? HA! Me thinks not.
