new post sans politics and religion

Big hello to our smackers living in parts of US hit by Sandy. Hope you're all safe.

Let's keep all political and discussion of religion to the previous post.

Has everyone been busy making Christmas cards? If you did, what stamps are you using for your projects? Anyone unable to use their pti stuff right now after all the dramatics from them?

If it was "frowned" upon by SU I'm sure they would change the policy. They are such sticklers on other things..(.ie. their demos using any other product lines). They want the sign-ups or it would be changed-GUARANTEED. But nothing says YOU have to do it if it's against YOUR principles. Don't preach.

If they truly meant for this to be for the public they would 1-not say it is for new demos, and 2-they would be clear that it was a sale for all customers. Since they do neither, it is dishonest to sign up to be a demo with the full intention of taking the product and doing nothing. Until SU publicly does #1 or #2, it is wrong.

Oh my aren't we dense???
The company is trying to lure you into becoming a hobby demo
They WANT you to sign up as a demo- they make about the same off thier demos who need to have the latest and grastest as they do off their customers
Then once your a demo they'll try to keep their hooks on you to keep buying
That's why there are recruiting incentives for existing demos as well- SU WANTS people to sign up
Even with the intention of dropping
Cause once your on board they can brainwash you into buying their product exclusively

What's so dishonest about taking the product ad doing nothing??? No where is the contract does it say I have to do workshops
Wasn't there a big stink about how they love their hobby demos as much as their big business demos?? So all those who make their minimums themselves are being dishonest??

It is one thing to maintain the minimum and another to buy all the discounted 30% and initial purchase and then dump it.

SU's top selling demos encourage their customers to sign up to become demos and then drop if they want. They do this with the full knowledge and support of SU.

In any event, when I said it was a "sale" I meant that even at the discount SU is making a sale -- a profit -- when someone pays the 99$ to become a demo. That shows how heavily the products are marked up.

This pushing of a starter kit is bad for lower level demos as they lose a regular sale with the 20% profit, but the higher of demos do quite well with this as they sign up a ton of people and get higher bonuses for doing so.

Those ink pads must cost SU .50 to produce.

I attended a regional workshop put on buy top selling demos in my state. I had to be a demo so I signed up to attend. About half of the people there were hobby demos and referenced as such.

What was frowned upon was any use or discussion of any other tools or products. One project used a Cuttlebug embossing folder and people walked out and refused to particiipate

I seriously doubt SU is losing money on this or they would not do it. They just want to make money.

Of course they aren't losing money off hobby demos signing up and then dropping. If they were, they'd change it.

Even a hobby demo who gets the initial package and never meets a minimum still has SU product in their hands. And there is a good chance that that former demo will continue ordering from a current demo even after they are dropped as a demo. SU still wins because they are still selling product.

Guess the Stiched Sentiment DT packages for Dawn, Maile & Danielle were on a mysterious pallet as well...

I'm a former SU demo who was encouraged to sign up just for the discount and ended up staying on for a few years. There's no obligation to stay on, but they do make it attractive if you like the discount, conventions, upline get-togethers, etc.

I'm guessing this happens frequently enough to make it worthwhile for the company to continue to offer the starter kit with no future financial obligation.

The banner die seems like a bad design with the holes in it. Why not put score lines where the paper is to be folded? I think the banners look sort of messy on some of the samples.

I love Melissa's samples -- this set really suits her style.

I really like the banner die, but those holes are just stupid. I wonder if it was a mistake, I.e. the die Manufacturer put holes instead of score lines. I can't think of any valid reason for there to be holes. Can anyone else? Am I missing something here?

And why do we have to rescore all of the score lines on the popper die? Not that I'm buying, but it seems to me that having to do all that extra work defeats the purpose of having a die. If I'm paying for a die, I expect it to do the complete job.

May? Seriously "MAY" is a focal word? Add the SIMPLY one and we have a pattern. They should have made an alphabet set of those cross-stitched letters. Now that would have been attractive.

Maybe they made it cut lines cause half people's score lines just cut anyways....this way they can't cry defective

Am I reading this incorrectly "you like a sister dear friend"?

Anonymous said...

I think it's supposed to couple with the larger LOVE
So, LOVE you like a sister dear friend

Dawn, Danielle, and Maile are waiting on late packages of product. As soon they get them in their hot little hands, they'll be posting their creations.

And I think this is the first month in a long month that Dawn doesn't have any product releasing. Just how the schedule worked out. You likely are noticing that there are no daily posts on her blog.

===============

Those morons at PTI can't even send packages to design team members in a timely manner!

Thanks 7:09, I totally missed that. Duh!

How can we lowly peasants expect decent service when even the princesses of PTI don't get service?

Anonymous said...

Did you see the "Baby, it's cold owl-side" sentiment on some of the blogs this morning? Now that is really stretching it.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you all about the sentiments. PTI seems to either go schmaltzy or lame with their word stamps, and often try to squeeze too many different type styles into a set or sentiment. I had completely forgotten it was "release time" there so they are officially flying under the radar for me.

Anyone think that if they went to a release at least every other month instead, they may take more time with their designs? It seems they need another few pair of eyes on these to give input.

And on the SU thing - the first time I signed up, I thought I may actually work the business. A couple of years after dropping, my demo kept telling me that I should "take advantage" of the next promotion. Just get the discounts and let it drop. She mentioned it to me several times before I did it. And SU was always telling demos that they valued hobby demos just as much as business demos.

Whoever is thinking about taking up their promotions - go for it. It's not dishonest.

From Amber's blog -
"The new collection includes coordinating ink, envelopes, ribbon, cardstock and giftwrap! YESSIR – you heard me – gift wrap! And what do we do with gift wrap? Well, I don’t know about you , but I use it to make gift bags. Gift wrap as gift wrap is so last season."

So CSS has just come out with a line of gift wrap and Amber says that using it as intended is so last season? That wouldn't sit well with me if I was CSS's owner.

Sorry, Amber bugs. And her new hard sell, Martha wanna be site is sad. She has some good ideas but her trying so hard is tiring. I already have one toddler in the house.
