PTI stands for Papertrey Ink. This is a collective smack blog and Papertrey Ink review page. Papertrey Ink's continuously poor customer service has lead to a page dedicated to discussion of this stamp company and recommendations for alternative stamp companies. Minimal censorship here- I prefer to leave it up to posters' discretion.
The opinions posted on this blog belong to our visitors and we are not paid for our honest reviews ;)
I was away from the board all day yesterday. Just caught up on all the drama associated with the Lace Impressions die. Really, I now gotta wonder if Julie responds that way on purpose. No one can be that clueless.
I just caught up with the lace impression drama too... Is Julie at the age of menopause-ing up the insanity lane? It's so hard to imagine anyone responding like that, maybe a salesperson having a bad day, sure, but it just seems to me she is perpetually rude.
Just have to say NH's peaks today blew me away and I am not planning on buying the teacher stamps. Have no one to give it to. Don't know any teachers and don't have kids with teachers either. Whew! Good for me I guess. Dang, love those chevrons!
I really liked the teacher set today. The sentiments aren't too mushy, and the graphics are wonderful. I think I know what I'll spend my remaining rewards dollars on.
[It still irks me that Nichole uses the Charcoal Palette ink. For f's sake already, come out with a true gray color! Something between PTI's Soft Green, er Soft Stone, and PTI's Smokey Chocolate, er Shadow.]
I think the idea of teacher cards/gifts at the beginning of the year is stupid. Seems like trying to get into their good books for favoritism. At the end of the year, sure it's a nice gesture.
The only reason that I care if PTI stays in business is because I like the dt samples every month. I won't be buying any more from them. I have had my own personal experience with Julie over the Sunrise ip and that was the first time that I've ordered since last year. Thank you for cementing my decision Julie.
I hadn't thought about how giving a card like that at the start of the year would look - a little weird. And I think any of my daughter's teachers would think it was weird and OTT, too. Thanks for letting me off the hook there!
I was tempted because of that cool banner look in that teacher set. The dream sentiment is lame - I think dreams come from within first and are supported, etc., by others.
Every time I think - oh, I could catch up with past stamp sets I haven't bought, and if I just order some stamps, I'll be safe (from product defects)... but then I read something like that Lace Impressions Die story and I shudder to think I almost spent money with them. Thanks to all of you who copied that here.
I also agree that it's very odd for those who still spend hundreds with PTI to be reading and commenting here.
If PTI would go under, then we'd get to see their DT members working with products from other companies that we WANT to purchase from!
After checking out the releases every month for years, it's a habit - and I'm always curious if I can just feel even happier not to buy from them, or if I should still hope they get their act together. Sometimes I see things I like but won't buy until they've made some changes. Most of the time it's just *meh* and I'd be just as happy if they weren't around anymore.. no temptation and free up the DT.
I'm not exactly 'with it' when it comes to this sort of thing, but is it weird that the NH blog has a link to Beth Silaika's blog now that she's designing for gina K?
For you scrapbookers, StopandScrap.com is having a sale on Studio Calico's HeyDey Collection (60% off). I picked up the collection kit for under $9 and the 6x6 paper pad for $2.60. Not bad.
As if Julie's comments regarding the lace impressions "die" weren't bad enough, after reading that conversation I have the impression that with PTI die products, you just never know what kind of sandwich you'll need -- try this, try that... how much cardstock is a person supposed to waste experimenting?? I haven't had to do that with products from other companies.
We honestly felt that the online community we have helped to create here would be more understanding of the technical glitch that occurred on release night. The black and white of the matter is that neither side of this issue is right or wrong. If we were to honor the old ink button that the site defaulted to, we would be charging everyone $6 and sending along the old pigment pads along with a complimentary pigment ink refill. We have actually charged customers $5 for a full-size dye ink pad. We have opted to meet the customer half-way and provide a $3 refund to anyone who ordered ink before 12:15am EST. After 12:15am the graphics had been corrected and reflected that there was no free refill. Since the advertised price that was alongside the free refill notation was $6 and you were only charged $5, the $3 refund you will receive covers the $4 refill incentive value. In order to receive a refund, any customer that specifically included the purchase of Spring Moss or Aqua Mist ink pads before 12:15am EST on their order needs to email customer service with their order number.
We feel that everyone has had the opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns regarding this issue. If you have any other comments or concerns you would like to discuss with us, you are more than welcome to contact customer service.
7:43, that is funny. Who the hell says "thanks for sharing your disappointment with us?" Nichole probably thanks the police officer whenever she gets a ticket.
I have been a teacher for 30 years and I LOVE getting little cards and notes on the first day. It shows support and that they value what we do for their children.
I have about 8 sets of teacher stamps and have to say the PTI ones are not tempting.

I love that teacher set! Use it every year for some kind of project. Add me to the list for a matching apple die! Rebecca
Postby nichole » Wed May 11, 2011 8:11 am Thanks for taking the time to share all of your disappointment with us that this particular die does not coordinate with Teacher's Apple. I personally am REALLY excited about Melissa's apple design and die and look forward to using the two together for many fun projects!
We will be sure to add your request of a coordinating die for the teacher set to our ongoing list. http://www.nicholeheady.typepad.com http://www.papertreyink.com

Postby kthaman » Wed May 11, 2011 11:30 am I love Melissa's new set - the fun and funky look is awesome! I have Teacher's Apple and would love a die for that as well, but I will still be adding the new set to my cart! -Karen My PTI Gallery carefree creations blog Color Comparison Photos
Uh sorry. Somebody asked for the apple post and so I posted it. I should have edited out all of the junk, I wasn't meaning for it to be so long. My apologies capital letter person.
So do any of the sets work with the new apple die coming out this release? Do we really need THREE apple dies all just slightly different, but that are not interhangeable? It is about money for PTI I guess, rather than happy customers.
One woman who frequently flew on Southwest, was constantly disappointed with every aspect of the company’s operation. In fact, she became known as the “Pen Pal” because after every flight she wrote in with a complaint.
She didn’t like the fact that the company didn’t assign seats; she didn’t like the absence of a first-class section; she didn’t like not having a meal in flight; she didn’t like Southwest’s boarding procedure; she didn’t like the flight attendants’ sporty uniforms and the casual atmosphere.
Her last letter, reciting a litany of complaints, momentarily stumped Southwest’s customer relations people. They bumped it up to Herb’s [Kelleher, CEO of Southwest] desk, with a note: ‘This one’s yours.’
In sixty seconds, Kelleher wrote back and said, ‘Dear Mrs. Crabapple, We will miss you. Love, Herb.’”
I appreciate what you are saying however, the people that are having problems are not just complainers. There are a handful of vocals but just as many that have just stopped shopping altogether. I don't think that any change will come about if everyone just stays quiet.
9:31, dear 9:31. Your analogy is soooooooooooooooo flawed.
While I don't like Southwest's boarding procedure, I'm not going to write a letter to them about it. It's their perogative, much like it is PTI's choice to package their stamps in plastic boxes and not offer a padded envelope shipping option.
But . . . if I buy a full-fare ticket and board a plane bound for Los Angeles, CA
And Southwest gives me a seat in the lavatory . . .
And we land clear across the country in Baltimore, MD, oh, there will be hell to pay.
Isn't it telling that NH won't use her own companies SS ink? Every time I see her stamping in Palette I chuckle. Maile's ghost card was cute until the close up. The splotchiness was scary as hell.
Teacher cards at the start of the year seem like suck up cards to me. Wait until after the first report card when the teacher is stressed, overworked, and counting down to the Christmas holidays. It'll mean more and seem less brown-nosey.
Two people expressed disappointment over not getting a new color this month and one poster said this- "I think with the enormous amount of time, energy, and planning that went into a very well executed event called Stamp A Faire this year, I think its kind of sad that some are so quick to jump on the negativity wagon so quickly."
weren't even members of the DT on the "what new color will we get this month" forum thread? seems like a bunch of hoopla was being made about a new color and I'm even a bit sad to see they aren't releasing one. but only because a stir was being made in the forum. if people in the forum would just shut up about shit they don't know about, they wouldn't get everyone else mad about stuff when PTI doesn't come through yet again. i would give 2 shits about the prospect of a new color until someone brought it up.
what do you guys think? my 3 yo daughter is in daycare. i don't think her teacher likes her (or maybe it's me) very much. i get this impression because when i pick up daughter, the teacher only ever comes to talk to me when my kid had a hard time listening that day. never to come say anything positive and can easily ignore me altogether. and i might be wrong.
knowing that she has a room full of 3 year olds moves me to be more compassionate rather than hairflip-y.
would it do any good for me to send her a "thanks for all you do" card? she is a fairly new teacher and maybe is still adjusting to the new routine/new kids/new parents?
I think the DT start stupid threads (like the "what new color this month") because they are reaching for topics. Sad, because they end up becoming teases (much like PTI and their "quality," fully performing products).
Seriously, people. If you want to talk about stay-at-home vs. working moms, go to cafemom, mommypedia, the nest, ivillage, and related websites. Plenty of fodder for you. Not interested in discussing this topic here.
Ouch. Harsh 11:42. Why can't you just say nothing at all if your just going to be bitchy?
What happened to moms sticking up for each other and sympathizing with the role of motherhood? Why do stuck up people have to project their own values on others? Oh wait, it's so you can feel better about yourself.
I vote send the card. If there is something between the teacher and the parent, maybe the teacher will bring it up. Or maybe if there isn't anything wrong, the teacher will soften a bit? If nothing changes, the parent can then feel like she did the right thing and not worry about it.
So, I ordered from AveryElle today. Changed my mind about a third stamp set (i.e. wanted to add it to my order). Wrote to customer service and Jaime, the owner, responded quickly. Was able to add the stamp set. My order is shipping out today. Now that is customer service!
So, anyone know how long it takes Impress to restock ink?
WTF was up with pasting an apple die thread form the forum that was written two-three years ago? Apparently something was missed in translation as I don't recall anyone here complaining about an apple die.
Get off PTI/stamping and we're probably all quite different people, with different values who do things in a million different ways.
In other words there are a million ways to divide and conquer. Only ONE to stay together.
11:31, if you're for real, I'd say that this blog isn't the right place for your question. But reading your post, your gut feeling has already told you what to do.
thanks to whoever had to resort to all caps to shut up the crazed post copier .... what was the point anyway? There's a new apple die that now goes with an old set?? Can't you just say that?? Unbelievable. Anyway - loved "shop for a brain."
And mommy-issues poster - that's a huge multilayered topic and this really isn't the forum for it. Talk to other moms in real life or find an appropriate online forum. (Oh, and I wouldn't get the new teacher set from PTI if I were you either.)
"I certainly appreciate everyone wanting to take the opportunity to share their opinions as to how frequently we release new colors. However, it is important to be respectful when doing so, according to our TOS. We will continue to release new colors according to a schedule that we feel best fits in with our overall plan behind the scenes."
SO, it's a secret schedule?? Didn't they have a "schedule" in place re: new colors? Just popcorn-chomping now - couldn't really care less. At this point, PTI is pure entertainment value for the inane comments by its owners and the nonsense of unicorns and paid posters (DT).
^^ And to tell you they are looking for other sources . . .
And that you solicited opinions on new colors . . .
And that other companies are releasing new paper/inks/ribbon lines faster than (1) Julie can call one of your customers an idiot and (2) you can give your canned "hope that helps" response.
Peanut10377 ... I like you. :). It's less work to crank out a new color collection (when there are gaping holes in the PTI spectrum) than to pump out a dozen new sets and dies. Not to mention the number of projects the DT has to do for each set.
Have you noticed that the PTI pin boards have countdown projects not on DT blogs? These ladies are seriously earning their keep. OTOH it may be easier when all you do is blow up existing sets 100% or drag out mini set series to infinity and beyond.
12:32 Has anyone tried Flourishes new papers and ribbons? I was quite impressed that they're releasing them around Memento ink colors. What is the paper/ribbon quality like?
12:01 - isn't Jamie fabulous? Had an issue with a defective stamp (it happens, not their fault). Asked CS how to get a replacement and got an email within the hour with an apology, a "is this still your ship to address?" and a promise to mail a replacement set by weeks end. And that's DURING a release. It's nice to not have to prove I bought it and that it doesn't work the way it should. I hope Avery Elle keeps up this level of service. I can't imagine any PTI mouthpiece taking the time to look up a previous invoice or trust that someone's not trying yo Von them out of $15 worth of acrylic.
12:40 - and after that Nichole references PTI's new TOS.
Which as far as I can make out says: "If you disagree with me in any way at all, or don't like the way we do things (even when we are shady) you are disrespectful."
NH's customer complaint responses are laugh out loud funny! It's really hard to imagine that any company would respond this way! My hat's off to them for having even 1 customer left.
@12:40 I haven't noticed cards being pinned that were not posted on designer blogs...are you talking about the ones that were just recently (this afternoon) pinned that are teacher cards and gifts that were from July 2010?
Found this blog sometime last year from the other smack blog. I had never heard of PTI ,but when I saw their stuff I was smitten,I wanted it all. But after a couple of days of reading here I thought no, they will not get an order from me, and they haven't. I still visit the blogs, and follow the releases, feeling sometimes like I will give in, but no they are relentless in treating their customers like crap making it easy for me to stay strong. This month has really cemented it in my head. Dies that are really meant to emboss, not cut,(unless you learn the secret sandwhich)!!! WTF is wrong with them?
Lawn Fawn - but only if you like coloring or paper piecing Avery Elle - very excited to see what comes next WPlus9 - images are not always my style, nice sentiments though
Not liking the new Neat & Tangled stamps. Seems like anyone with clip art and a few spare nickels can peddle their wares online. But I like her stuff using other prople's stamps. Always wanted to like Gina K's but they strike me as being more geriatric or clownish. Not my style or good for my card giving needs.
Would like to try CAS stamps but their dies are ridiculously expensive. And no, I don't believe in wasting time cutting when a die has been invented. Damn that NH.
Loving and buying WPlus9, Avery Elle, Waltzingmouse Stamps, MFT dies, Clean and Simple, Craft's Meow. I want to like Gina K. I really do. But I'm waiting for different stamp designs from her.
WTH? They're pinning cards from 2010? Because of a $5 apple die? GMAB. That time could be better spent brushing up on manners, etiquette and people skills.
14:34 you could try AMuse. Their inks are superb, but their cardstock takes some getting used to. It is thinner and has color on one side (white on the other). Matching ribbons too. But they have surprisingly good colors right out of the gate.
12:41 I have tried Flourishes cardstock. Good quality, thick like PTIs. Don't know about the ribbon haven't tried that yet. I am happy with my switch to AMuse from PTI.
Anonymous said... 12:32 Has anyone tried Flourishes new papers and ribbons? I was quite impressed that they're releasing them around Memento ink colors. What is the paper/ribbon quality like?
14 August 2012 12:41 ****************
The card stock is very nice with a little texture to it. Be mindful that the "ribbon" is actually seam binding so it's not really heavy, but I jumped on the seam binding wagon quite awhile ago because I like that it's lightweight. It's easy to make great bows, or you can distress and wrinkle it up for a vintage look. And it's really great that it all matches my Copics and Memento ink pads, too!
Most smaller stamp companies are getting into cardstock - Avery Elle's look similar to PTI in color. Bazzill card shoppe is pretty nice if you've got an LSS nearby.
I think the only people who appreciate the difference btw 80# and 110# cardstock are other stampers. Get over PTI and buy a brand that you're proud to support. After a week or two, you'll get used to the lighter weight. And save on postage.
SU ink is like PTI's in that it's tied to their color of ribbon and paper. That matchy-matchy cult frame of mind is why some are on their second or third round of inks with both of these companies. Find what you love and buy with a clear conscience. If you mix and match companies, it's no big deal if CS goes down the drain or prices go up. You're not 100% committed to a company. Commit to a craft or hobby that makes you happy.
I know its been mentioned, and no, I dont get it so I am asking... How is it a coincidence that PTI and WPlus 9 have similar "new" stamp and die designs at the same time. I am referring to that stupid apple
16:30 someone else was matching about other places to buy matching ink and paper. I wasn't suggesting she toss everything and buy only the SU color families, nor join a cult. Geesh.
Thank you to whoever posted about SU inks not as nice as the Fresh inks. I was wondering about it awhile back. Now just waiting for another Impress sale to complete my colors.
I was able to get into the forum an hour ago. Looking forward to the full reveal to finalize my order.
12:01 Agree..Beth's stamp set is pretty disappointing.
They need to give up on the inks (another epic fail) and stick to what they do best - building up hype and bitch-slapping the customers who made them a success.
The fact that Ellen gives a monthly discount to regular customers, ships within hours of ordering, I get my orders in 24 hours, they are always accurate, TOTALLY makes up for the shipping costs.
I don't order enough from any one company to get excited about loyalty programs. Living in Canada, shipping is often a deciding factor in whether or not I order. When I looked at EH a year or so ago, shipping started at $23. No thank you.
An unnamed Papertrey cheerleader doesn't have any stamps from this release on her "to buy" list this month. That shows you what kind of release this is.
Damn the gallery is annoying. I get a database error in every other gallery and lots of galleries don't have thumbnails. I wonder if this will ever be fixed? Just shut the stupid thing down already if it's never going to work.
I went to the Gallery sub forum and looked through some of the topics to see if there was any news about the gallery and a lot of the posts have nothing to do with the gallery at all.
About the Teresa Collins thing, I have no idea what 8:30 is talking about. But it clearly can't be infringing on Xyron when she mentions in the first paragraph her new adhesive line with Xyron.
Which companies do single hexagon dies? Love this card by Jennifer Rzasa with the single embossed hexie http://ourchangeofart.blogspot.com/2012/06/css-release-review-party-hop.html
Lifestyle Crafts has nesting hexagons. 15 sizes. Amazon has them through Scrapbook.com for $22.49, but you might be able to find them cheaper or use a coupon code somewhere.
For all you Silhouette Cameo owners ... is it a good substitute for word dies? It's pricey, but any luck using it to create "die cuts" for stamped images that have no die? Would be worth it if it replaces word and shape dies.
I have a Cameo but I still buy dies. It's just faster to use dies especially the ones that coordinate with a stamp set. The Cameo is amazing for anything custom. You can use any true type font and weld letters together to create any word that you want. I love my Cameo.
The Stamp Release Parties forum only goes back to July. I wonder if this is a space saving thing (too much garbage makes the website slow) or if it is an attempt to hide all of the tech complaints from the new website?
I'm guessing that when you create files for say a word or an image, you can just save the file so it's ready to reuse later. So handy! And I love the idea of cutting a bunch of images in white and having them ready to stamp later on. Think I better be good and smack less. Only got four months to convince Santa that I've been a good girl. LOL
I really like Julie Lacey's cards. I wondered if everything was okay last year and somebody popped in and said that she was working towards a CPA or something? Maybe she is just really busy at work but I don't know.
OMG First!?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new space, Smacker III.

Trell - Studio Calico have introduced a card kit club. I assume that's why Maile is on the DT :)
ReplyDeleteThis PTI release barely has me excited. They are really losing originality. Guess what PTI- there is some serious new competition on the block now.
ReplyDeleteWplus9 order placed yesterday and I am placing an order at Avery Elle now! Free cut files! How cool is that!
I think the idea of teacher cards/gifts at the beginning of the year is stupid. Seems like trying to get into their good books for favoritism. At the end of the year, sure it's a nice gesture.

I do not like the spray mist look! I hope that Maile doesn't start to use it on all of her cards!

Teacher's Apple has been on my wish list for a long time - if the die works, that should be the little push I need.

8:22, I don't own any teacher stamp sets and was contemplating purchasing the PTI one. Can you share what other sets you have? Thanks in advance!!!

Unfortunately, they are pretty different - sorry. We'll be sure to add your suggestion about an apple die for Teacher's Apple to our list, though!

Thanks, Audrey!
I should have known Mel would come up with something like that.
I wonder if other fruits will have similar dies?

I'm disappointed that the apple die won't work with Teacher's Apple, too. Add me to the list who would like to see a die for that apple!

Gotta add my disappointment that the apple die isn't compatible :(
I love that teacher set! Use it every year for some kind of project. Add me to the list for a matching apple die!

Thanks for taking the time to share all of your disappointment with us that this particular die does not coordinate with Teacher's Apple. I personally am REALLY excited about Melissa's apple design and die and look forward to using the two together for many fun projects!
We will be sure to add your request of a coordinating die for the teacher set to our ongoing list.

WILL THE PERSON WHO JUST POSTED ALL THIS APPLE JUNK GO AND SHOP FOR A BRAIN?
ReplyDeleteTHERE IS ALREADY A FORUM FOR SYCOPHANTS.
THIS IS NOT IT.
Uh sorry. Somebody asked for the apple post and so I posted it. I should have edited out all of the junk, I wasn't meaning for it to be so long.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies capital letter person.
So do any of the sets work with the new apple die coming out this release? Do we really need THREE apple dies all just slightly different, but that are not interhangeable? It is about money for PTI I guess, rather than happy customers.
ReplyDeleteYes, the new apple die also works with Teacher's Apple.
ReplyDelete0757 NH says "hope this helps" after getting a ticket from a police officer
ReplyDelete09:03 As it should be
ReplyDelete09:10, Your barbs are so obvious they're not even fun to respond to.
ReplyDelete^^^ except you did respond. Gottcha!
DeleteAvery Elle Order SHIPPED within 25 minutes of ordering complete with tracking numbers showing it has left them.
ReplyDeleteOne woman who frequently flew on Southwest, was constantly disappointed with every aspect of the company’s operation. In fact, she became known as the “Pen Pal” because after every flight she wrote in with a complaint.
ReplyDeleteShe didn’t like the fact that the company didn’t assign seats; she didn’t like the absence of a first-class section; she didn’t like not having a meal in flight; she didn’t like Southwest’s boarding procedure; she didn’t like the flight attendants’ sporty uniforms and the casual atmosphere.
09:31 - so we were all wrong for being upset with Julie's customer service response yesterday and you have no problem with it?
ReplyDeleteI just don't fly Southwest
ReplyDelete9:53, many of us in smaller communities don't have a choice. We are at their mercy.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate what you are saying however, the people that are having problems are not just complainers. There are a handful of vocals but just as many that have just stopped shopping altogether. I don't think that any change will come about if everyone just stays quiet.
ReplyDelete^^^Doh, huh?
ReplyDelete10:25, are you here because the smack blog is more interesting than the forum?
ReplyDelete9:31, dear 9:31. Your analogy is soooooooooooooooo flawed.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't like Southwest's boarding procedure, I'm not going to write a letter to them about it.
^^ Oh, and Julie Heskamp moonlights as a Southwest flight attendant and pisses in my drink.
ReplyDelete10:44 - roflol, I'm 9:44 and thought I'd just cut to the chase.
ReplyDeleteMan you make for better reading! Whatever you do, don't go away.
Then stop buying tickets
ReplyDeleteIsn't it telling that NH won't use her own companies SS ink? Every time I see her stamping in Palette I chuckle. Maile's ghost card was cute until the close up. The splotchiness was scary as hell.
ReplyDeleteTeacher cards at the start of the year seem like suck up cards to me. Wait until after the first report card when the teacher is stressed, overworked, and counting down to the Christmas holidays. It'll mean more and seem less brown-nosey.
10:52 - maybe we already have and are just here helping other travellers out of the john?
ReplyDeleteTwo people expressed disappointment over not getting a new color this month and one poster said this-
ReplyDelete"I think with the enormous amount of time, energy, and planning that went into a very well executed event called Stamp A Faire this year, I think its kind of sad that some are so quick to jump on the negativity wagon so quickly."
Posts like this drive me crazy!
Ugh she's so annoying...I had to go search for what you meant I've put her on ignore ages ago
ReplyDeleteweren't even members of the DT on the "what new color will we get this month" forum thread? seems like a bunch of hoopla was being made about a new color and I'm even a bit sad to see they aren't releasing one. but only because a stir was being made in the forum. if people in the forum would just shut up about shit they don't know about, they wouldn't get everyone else mad about stuff when PTI doesn't come through yet again. i would give 2 shits about the prospect of a new color until someone brought it up.
ReplyDeletewhat do you guys think? my 3 yo daughter is in daycare. i don't think her teacher likes her (or maybe it's me) very much. i get this impression because when i pick up daughter, the teacher only ever comes to talk to me when my kid had a hard time listening that day. never to come say anything positive and can easily ignore me altogether. and i might be wrong.
ReplyDeleteknowing that she has a room full of 3 year olds moves me to be more compassionate rather than hairflip-y.
would it do any good for me to send her a "thanks for all you do" card? she is a fairly new teacher and maybe is still adjusting to the new routine/new kids/new parents?
thoughts?
why would dt imply there was a new color when there was none?
ReplyDeleteIf you want your child 100% loved all day, stay home with her.
ReplyDeleteI am an advocate, a strong advocate of full time parenting and not having kids until you can be a full time parent.
ReplyDelete11:33, you sound like just the sort of lovely person who should never be around children even if they're your own
ReplyDeleteThanks for nothing, 11:33 & 11:35. It must be so nice to sit in your ivory McMansions looking down on all us working folk.
ReplyDelete11:31, yes, send the card. It's always nice to receive acknowledgment and know you are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteAs for the other comments, not interested in starting mommy wars. Let's get back to the PTI smacking!
I think the DT start stupid threads (like the "what new color this month") because they are reaching for topics. Sad, because they end up becoming teases (much like PTI and their "quality," fully performing products).
ReplyDeleteSome of us live in areas that we cannot afford to be a one income family...
ReplyDeleteBut judgemantal and small minded people need to exist so I can point them out to my children and remind them not to grow up like that
If you want your child 100% loved all day, quit ignoring them while you are on the smack blog, 11:33 & 11:35.
ReplyDelete11:40, bravo!
ReplyDelete10:40, don't have what you cannot afford.
ReplyDeleteTo the last poster, my children are all away at law school right now.
I should take that back. 2 are at law school, the other is in Europe on tour.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, people. If you want to talk about stay-at-home vs. working moms, go to cafemom, mommypedia, the nest, ivillage, and related websites. Plenty of fodder for you. Not interested in discussing this topic here.
ReplyDelete11:40 instead. Hit the wrong key.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Harsh 11:42. Why can't you just say nothing at all if your just going to be bitchy?
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to moms sticking up for each other and sympathizing with the role of motherhood? Why do stuck up people have to project their own values on others? Oh wait, it's so you can feel better about yourself.
Sad.
So should the lady send the card to the daycare teacher or not? Damn, things in here can get side tracked.
ReplyDelete11:44, I'm with you sister.
ReplyDeleteI vote send the card. If there is something between the teacher and the parent, maybe the teacher will bring it up. Or maybe if there isn't anything wrong, the teacher will soften a bit? If nothing changes, the parent can then feel like she did the right thing and not worry about it.
ReplyDelete11:43, I'm sure we care about your kids or your nasty opinion.
ReplyDeleteIt is nasty to suggest children should have full time parents?
ReplyDelete11:31, yes, send the card. It's always nice to receive acknowledgment and know you are appreciated.
ReplyDeleteSo, I ordered from AveryElle today. Changed my mind about a third stamp set (i.e. wanted to add it to my order). Wrote to customer service and Jaime, the owner, responded quickly. Was able to add the stamp set. My order is shipping out today. Now that is customer service!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I could make stamps like this with a potato! How is this being a designer or illustrator???
ReplyDeletehttp://shop.ginakdesigns.com/product.sc?categoryId=16&productId=1328
Yeah, that stamp set is pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteSo, anyone know how long it takes Impress to restock ink?
ReplyDeleteWTF was up with pasting an apple die thread form the forum that was written two-three years ago? Apparently something was missed in translation as I don't recall anyone here complaining about an apple die.
You would have to ask Impress. How are we supposed to know?
ReplyDeleteIf 11:31 is a unicorn, she's a brilliant one.
ReplyDeleteGet off PTI/stamping and we're probably all quite different people, with different values who do things in a million different ways.
In other words there are a million ways to divide and conquer. Only ONE to stay together.
11:31, if you're for real, I'd say that this blog isn't the right place for your question. But reading your post, your gut feeling has already told you what to do.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming?
Right on 12:09. So sorry I took her bait.
ReplyDeletethanks to whoever had to resort to all caps to shut up the crazed post copier .... what was the point anyway? There's a new apple die that now goes with an old set?? Can't you just say that?? Unbelievable. Anyway - loved "shop for a brain."
ReplyDeleteAnd mommy-issues poster - that's a huge multilayered topic and this really isn't the forum for it.
ReplyDeleteSO, it's a secret schedule?? Didn't they have a "schedule" in place re: new colors? Just popcorn-chomping now - couldn't really care less. At this point, PTI is pure entertainment value for the inane comments by its owners and the nonsense of unicorns and paid posters (DT).
Yes, Nichole, we all know how disrespectful it is to ask "where's the new color?"
ReplyDelete^^ And to tell you they are looking for other sources . . .
ReplyDeleteAnd that you solicited opinions on new colors . . .
And that other companies are releasing new paper/inks/ribbon lines faster than (1) Julie can call one of your customers an idiot and (2) you can give your canned "hope that helps" response.
Puhlease!
Peanut10377 ... I like you. :). It's less work to crank out a new color collection (when there are gaping holes in the PTI spectrum) than to pump out a dozen new sets and dies. Not to mention the number of projects the DT has to do for each set.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed that the PTI pin boards have countdown projects not on DT blogs? These ladies are seriously earning their keep. OTOH it may be easier when all you do is blow up existing sets 100% or drag out mini set series to infinity and beyond.
12:32 Has anyone tried Flourishes new papers and ribbons? I was quite impressed that they're releasing them around Memento ink colors. What is the paper/ribbon quality like?
ReplyDeleteWoohooo! My Avery order placed early this morning will be here tomorrow afternoon!!!
ReplyDelete12:01 - isn't Jamie fabulous? Had an issue with a defective stamp (it happens, not their fault). Asked CS how to get a replacement and got an email within the hour with an apology, a "is this still your ship to address?" and a promise to mail a replacement set by weeks end. And that's DURING a release. It's nice to not have to prove I bought it and that it doesn't work the way it should. I hope Avery Elle keeps up this level of service. I can't imagine any PTI mouthpiece taking the time to look up a previous invoice or trust that someone's not trying yo Von them out of $15 worth of acrylic.
ReplyDeleteJamie also responded to me within minutes of having a minor problem with their site. Way to go AE. You move to the top of my list.
ReplyDeleteO.K. I'm young and impressionable ... what is AE's paper like? Any experiences?
ReplyDelete12:40 - and after that Nichole references PTI's new TOS.
ReplyDeleteWhich as far as I can make out says: "If you disagree with me in any way at all, or don't like the way we do things (even when we are shady) you are disrespectful."
NH's customer complaint responses are laugh out loud funny! It's really hard to imagine that any company would respond this way! My hat's off to them for having even 1 customer left.
ReplyDelete@12:40 I haven't noticed cards being pinned that were not posted on designer blogs...are you talking about the ones that were just recently (this afternoon) pinned that are teacher cards and gifts that were from July 2010?
ReplyDelete^^^(hairflip) ... you are SO disrespectful!
ReplyDeleteLOL - 13:17 for 13:13
ReplyDeleteI am a huge Avery Elle cardstock fan. The colors are rick and the cardstock is really thick.
ReplyDeleteWhat inks are you using with them - have you found good matches?
ReplyDeleteIs the Avery Kraft the same color as PTI?
ReplyDeleteFound this blog sometime last year from the other smack blog.
ReplyDeleteLOL--the secret sandwich, the secret color release schedule, the secret shipping process.
ReplyDeleteAvery Elle kraft cardstock is so pretty! Nice and thick! The color is close to PTI but I prefer the AE cardstock now!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one that feels like 5 bizillion new stamp companies have started up? Who has promise?
ReplyDeleteLoving WPlus9, MFT, Avery Elle, Lawn Fawn, and watching a few others to see where they go. I also like Gina K now and then.
ReplyDeleteI love Verve, Wplus9, Sweet & Sassy, and some MFT stuff. My collection is very eclectic.
ReplyDeleteI like Waltzingmouse Stamps, WPlus9, and Clean and Simple Stamps.
ReplyDeleteLawn Fawn - but only if you like coloring or paper piecing
ReplyDeleteAvery Elle - very excited to see what comes next
WPlus9 - images are not always my style, nice sentiments though
ReplyDeleteClean and Simple stamps seems over-priced to me...
ReplyDeleteWTH? They're pinning cards from 2010? Because of a $5 apple die? GMAB. That time could be better spent brushing up on manners, etiquette and people skills.
ReplyDeleteKeep talking, I'm about a hairsbreadth from walking away from PTI and shutting the door behind me. (I WANT TO do it, I really do.)
ReplyDeletePlease tell me where to buy paper that has decent matches in ink and I'm gone!
14:34 you could try AMuse. Their inks are superb, but their cardstock takes some getting used to. It is thinner and has color on one side (white on the other). Matching ribbons too. But they have surprisingly good colors right out of the gate.
ReplyDelete12:41 I have tried Flourishes cardstock. Good quality, thick like PTIs. Don't know about the ribbon haven't tried that yet. I am happy with my switch to AMuse from PTI.

****************
The card stock is very nice with a little texture to it. Be mindful that the "ribbon" is actually seam binding so it's not really heavy, but I jumped on the seam binding wagon quite awhile ago because I like that it's lightweight. It's easy to make great bows, or you can distress and wrinkle it up for a vintage look. And it's really great that it all matches my Copics and Memento ink pads, too!
Most smaller stamp companies are getting into cardstock - Avery Elle's look similar to PTI in color. Bazzill card shoppe is pretty nice if you've got an LSS nearby.
ReplyDeleteI think the only people who appreciate the difference btw 80# and 110# cardstock are other stampers. Get over PTI and buy a brand that you're proud to support. After a week or two, you'll get used to the lighter weight. And save on postage.
15:19 and 22 THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to do some looking, comparing and shopping. I really appreciate your sharing!
15:25 thank you too.
ReplyDeleteThat's part of the equation isn't it? I DO feel sick about putting money into PTI's pocket!
Don't forget stampin' up. The new ink pads are terrific.
ReplyDeleteSU ink is like PTI's in that it's tied to their color of ribbon and paper.
ReplyDeleteRick, if you want to see the company succeed, please convince Julie to get out of customer service.
ReplyDelete14:43 ask me do I care if you walk away.
ReplyDeleteI know its been mentioned, and no, I dont get it so I am asking... How is it a coincidence that PTI and WPlus 9 have similar "new" stamp and die designs at the same time. I am referring to that stupid apple
ReplyDeleteSo Maile is now on the Studio Calico team with Dawn? Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI hate spray misting. Those are my thoughts.
ReplyDeletenot a coincidence. fall = apples. done
ReplyDelete16:30 someone else was matching about other places to buy matching ink and paper. I wasn't suggesting she toss everything and buy only the SU color families, nor join a cult. Geesh.
ReplyDeleteNew SU ink not nearly as nice as Fresh Ink.
ReplyDelete16:45 - should you care where anyone else chooses to shop at all?
ReplyDeleteYour post is odd.
To everyone that has offered me suggestions, thank you. I appreciate all of them!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else unable to get into the forum?
ReplyDeleteIt's a real shame the forum needs a thread called "Release Night Tech Help." Most companies would be beyond embarrassed to have that.
ReplyDelete16:45 ... Do you?
ReplyDeleteThank you to whoever posted about SU inks not as nice as the Fresh inks. I was wondering about it awhile back. Now just waiting for another Impress sale to complete my colors.
ReplyDeleteI was able to get into the forum an hour ago. Looking forward to the full reveal to finalize my order.
12:01 Agree..Beth's stamp set is pretty disappointing.
16:50 Wondered about that too...maybe Dawn introduced Maile to the SC DT? I guess they get along great lol.
ReplyDelete20:58 and if they didn't you'd bitch about that too.
ReplyDeleteStamp sale at Ellen Hutson for the next 3 days. 15% off all in stock stamps. Use promo code stampstash at checkout.
ReplyDeleteACN's coloring is worse than a 4 year old's.
ReplyDeleteI'd buy from Ellen if it weren't for the shipping fee.
ReplyDeleteLaughing at 4:10's comment.
Dang Betsy & Debbie! I meant that in a complimentary way... Autumn Hills was not in my list!!
ReplyDeleteEllen's high shipping costs turn me off too.
ReplyDeleteLove Erin's Just a Note card.
ReplyDeleteWow. This month's projects really showcase how shitty PTI's inks are.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I can always use other inks (wink) The designs/images are just top notch, a must buy (for me anyway)
ReplyDelete05:23 -- you crack me up.
ReplyDeleteThey need to give up on the inks (another epic fail) and stick to what they do best - building up hype and bitch-slapping the customers who made them a success.
Well this release is underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Ellen gives a monthly discount to regular customers, ships within hours of ordering, I get my orders in 24 hours, they are always accurate, TOTALLY makes up for the shipping costs.
ReplyDeleteNot a bit tempted to order PTI again. LOTS of junk, but nothing I really want.
ReplyDelete04:10. I believe is watercolor
ReplyDeleteI don't order enough from any one company to get excited about loyalty programs. Living in Canada, shipping is often a deciding factor in whether or not I order. When I looked at EH a year or so ago, shipping started at $23. No thank you.
ReplyDeleteLooking at the blogs from Gina K's new release this AM and thinking they really are doing better style-wise. There are 3 sets I have to have.
ReplyDelete7:13, no, ACN said she colored that card using copics but explained away her poor execution as "freeform."
ReplyDeleteI tell my husband the same thing when I burn pizza; "honey, it is Italian toast!"
An unnamed Papertrey cheerleader doesn't have any stamps from this release on her "to buy" list this month. That shows you what kind of release this is.
ReplyDeleteI predict that sales will be down this month.
ReplyDeleteScroll to the bottom and ask yourself how she gets away with this:

Damn the gallery is annoying. I get a database error in every other gallery and lots of galleries don't have thumbnails. I wonder if this will ever be fixed? Just shut the stupid thing down already if it's never going to work.
ReplyDeleteWhat am I missing about Teresa Collins? Who is she copying? Heidi Swapp? Papertrey? Is she infringing on Xyron's trademark? Fill me in please.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Gallery sub forum and looked through some of the topics to see if there was any news about the gallery and a lot of the posts have nothing to do with the gallery at all.

It felt more like a dumping ground for die cutting problems.
About the Teresa Collins thing, I have no idea what 8:30 is talking about. But it clearly can't be infringing on Xyron when she mentions in the first paragraph her new adhesive line with Xyron.
ReplyDeleteThat's odd about the gallery forum. Clearly the posts don't have a lot to do with the gallery.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the Teresa Collins issue either.
ReplyDeleteTeresa Collins, stop posting here in an attempt to drum up business for your new line with Xyron!

This is interesting. Does anyone actually do kit clubs for cards? I am not the least interested in this and not sure about the $60 price tag either.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.amazingpapergrace.com/the-rest-of-the-story/
I don't do kit clubs but I think that Becca has a huge following so it will probably be successful.
ReplyDeleteNothing from this release is going to keep me up at night. The word dies would be nice, but not worth putting money into Julie's hands for me.
ReplyDeleteWhich companies do single hexagon dies? Love this card by Jennifer Rzasa with the single embossed hexie http://ourchangeofart.blogspot.com/2012/06/css-release-review-party-hop.html
ReplyDeleteShe was using CAS - too much $$$$ for me.
Lifestyle Crafts has nesting hexagons. 15 sizes. Amazon has them through Scrapbook.com for $22.49, but you might be able to find them cheaper or use a coupon code somewhere.

Wasn't someone on the PTI for sale board selling this die set?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hexie suggestions, I'm seeing Spellbinders available for pre-order too. I'll look around and see what's closest to home.
ReplyDeleteI also remember CAS dies on the FSOT board - can't find a thing now :(

ReplyDeleteHere ya go. Good luck!
The day we have all been waiting for is finally here! Can't you just feel the anticipation in the air!
ReplyDeleteWish she'd change up the blog every once in a while, I haven't felt the anticipation in the air in a very long time. gag.
For all you Silhouette Cameo owners ... is it a good substitute for word dies? It's pricey, but any luck using it to create "die cuts" for stamped images that have no die? Would be worth it if it replaces word and shape dies.
ReplyDeleteI have a Cameo but I still buy dies. It's just faster to use dies especially the ones that coordinate with a stamp set.
ReplyDeleteThe Cameo is amazing for anything custom. You can use any true type font and weld letters together to create any word that you want. I love my Cameo.
I didn't answer your question about die cuts.
ReplyDeleteYes, you can create shapes for stamps that don't have dies.
I stamp the image, scan it and save as a jpeg. I then open the jpeg in my Cameo and trace it. The resulting file can be used to cut the shapes.
I have done this for most of my YOF stamps.
The Stamp Release Parties forum only goes back to July. I wonder if this is a space saving thing (too much garbage makes the website slow) or if it is an attempt to hide all of the tech complaints from the new website?
ReplyDelete10:48 - too true LOL!! It's like an overused drumroll that doesn't make me catch my breath anymore.
ReplyDelete11:04 have not tried the trace feature. I am still a novice with Cameo. Does the software trace it or do you have to rely on your own steady hand?
ReplyDeleteThe trace feature on the cameo renders ALL PTI dies useless.
ReplyDeleteIt automatically traces either the outside of an image or both the outside and the inside of an image.
No manual hand tracing at all.
You can open any jpeg in your Cameo and trace it using the trace feature.
ReplyDelete^^^AWESOME! Guess what I am trying after work? DH can warm leftovers. After all I am ssving momey with this feature
ReplyDeleteDon't have anything to add, but I did call my sister a moran today!
ReplyDelete@12:17 - saving money or saving mommy (or both :)?
ReplyDeleteTrell! (with finger wag) I hope you said sorry :)!
Ah Trell, you're probably just jalous. (snort)
ReplyDeleteLOL, Trell!
ReplyDelete^^^ awesome info so far. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing that when you create files for say a word or an image, you can just save the file so it's ready to reuse later. So handy! And I love the idea of cutting a bunch of images in white and having them ready to stamp later on. Think I better be good and smack less. Only got four months to convince Santa that I've been a good girl. LOL
12:53 I thought the smackers were the good girls? Aren't we the ones trying to keep PTI honest??
ReplyDelete1223 I am typing on phone at work and heard someone coming towards my cubicle!! LOL. So I was typing fast
ReplyDeleteAt least I didn't call her a twatwaffle.
ReplyDelete^^^visiting the smack blog? Take your urban dictionary :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's happening with Julie Lacey?
ReplyDeleteShe was selling off tons of stamps recently, her blog hasn't been updated ...
I haven't been an avid follower, but have enjoyed her cards and hope she is O.K.?
I really like Julie Lacey's cards. I wondered if everything was okay last year and somebody popped in and said that she was working towards a CPA or something? Maybe she is just really busy at work but I don't know.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Silhouette Cameo, did anyone notice that Flourishes is now going to be doing cuts for all of their stamps? I'm lovin it!
