for those who are a "special kind of stupid" who want to forge ahead with an order on the 15th, follow these simple tips for maximum satisfaction:
1) remember to write down EXACTLY what you want - since it is nearly impossible to use the search feature without knowing the exact PTI name of what you are looking for,
2) throw items into your cart QUICKLY - you need to beat the every 30 second system updates that are being blamed as the cause for dumping carts, and

DeleteI received my last order yesterday, one that I made in mid February. (It was the friendship jar stamp set and die). I noticed the TOP die is not included, sneaky little devils, so I made one more order, just for that top and to use up my last 5 points. And it kept telling me to enter the state, but there was no drop box for that, until I accidentally hit the country box, and then the state option appeared. I couldn't believe my eyes :-)

ReplyDeleteWell, I just spent nearly $250 across two other companies that would not have gotten my money had PTI's "Fucked up beyond all belief" website been working properly. Fancy not being able to get around to fixing ANYTHING of real value or so it seems since more than a month ago! They say they are making improvements but nothing related to the website as far as I can see. Still unable to cope with CC that expire in 2012. WTF? Carts still dumping, No state, shipping notices with consistancy. I can't even order if I wanted to. WTF? Don't even get me started on sending out prizes that aren't the full "advertized" prize.

I honestly think that jenn is guarded and on the defensively from all the personal attacks to her person and character. Since people aren't saying things to her actual face they feel more free to be abrasive. No matter what is said she will be defensively. Why does that shock everyone? Maybe Jenn is as PO'd at them as some of us are and is sending bitchy emails to forum members to help PTI lose customers or something.
ReplyDeleteI think the refunds may have to do with cash flow problems with PTI. Rewards accumulated over 12 months are suddenly available for use by 1000s of customers, resulting in significantly less cash flow (actual dollars coming in the door) during the February release. So having to refund the GC redeemed also (which there seems like lots of people tried to do) would further hurt the incoming cash flow for this release. I can't even begin to imagine how much money PTI has tied up in inventory since they won't retire anything -- even if it isn't selling. And how much $ it composts each month to keep up with the inventory for the next month.
ReplyDeletePTI gave away 200 forest friends sets at stamp a faire last year and I suspect that those were inventory that had not been selling. I can't recall seeing any DT team member or publication using that set.
PTI could be a business school case study in a poor business model.

ReplyDeleteThat's what I keep saying about PTI - being the best business case study. If any of you went to business school - these cases are of failed companies (typically).
ReplyDeleteI mean hindsight is 20/20 but in a lot of cases, these mistakes are so glaringly in your face you can't even believe how they manage to run their thriving business into the ground.
In some cases, it's market conditions and the shortcomings of the business to be unable to react.
However, in our PTI's case - the topic that their case study would fall under would be "Lack of Competent Leadership" and "Customer Service Fail". lol
Me again- I agree cash flow has to be a big part of their problems and I brought this up before.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that business school was BS in a lot of ways - study stupid management theories. However, basic 101 courses would have helped these PTI owners out a lot. I think they are WAY over their heads. It seems like a simple business but there are lot of moving parts.
Nichole, unfortunately, picked the wrong partners. I feel sorry for her because this DID NOT have to happen.

Also, if you have rewards, etc, use them now and make your purchases and try hard to make it as simple as possible for you to get your goods.
And if you are stupid enough to continue to buy, you are basically taking a big risk that you may not see your goods or create additional problems for yourself.
I think it is hilarious that it isn't enough for the Glitter-Farting Unicorns to stir up drama for those-with-valid-complaints on the forums and in their own secret squirrel club, but that they have to bring it here too.

ReplyDeleteI am definitely using up all rewards with this release and then if I ever get GC codes from old GCs I will use those ASAP. (i'm not holding my breath) This company appears to be headed towards incredible cash flow problems that could easily sink it if they don't have enough cash on hand. Combine the February problems with a lackluster release that appears to be lacking the interest of previous months (based on the comments for the contests) along with dozens of people who are hestiant to order and this problem could easily snowball to a point of no recovery.

It took a few emails to get them to understand my problem --- they were just sending me a link to the sign in page, and telling me to select need help with password, which was not working. They finally sent me the new password directly. This took a couple days to straighten out, but it seems to be fine now. Good luck.

ReplyDeleteRe: hating Unicorns. I definitely don't hate Unicorns. And I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm pretty sure no one else hates them as well. What I am disappointed by is their unconditional loyalty to PTI, especially when it's obvious PTI is treating a portion of their customers badly. In a world where customers can change the success or failure of a company, "Unicorns" seem to be getting in the way of PTI's progress on enhancing CS. I personally don't understand this mentality. And I also don't understand why there are Unicorns that have been mistreated, yet feel it is OK to continue being abused by PTI, acting like nothing is wrong. PTI could hire more people to help resolve customer issues and they choose not to. That is a shitty business decision, and that's why us smackers are up in arms.
Re: Ted. I don't dislike Ted, either. I'm glad he created a separate forum where he can gather a community of like-minded souls. What I think most smackers are disappointed with is Ted's persona - his bi-polar attitude towards PTI. One minute he's smacking them and tells people to "talk with your wallet" and then in the next post he's suddenly manic and talking about what he's going to buy in the upcoming release. I personally wish he would just take a stance for once and for all.
Oh, and I've never bothered with release party stuff but if there's going to be drinking...I'm interested!
ReplyDeleteI think it is "business as usual" this release because I don't think that PTI can financially afford to halt a release. The business model appears to be set up like a pyramid - not in a fraudulent way, but in a way where the company's day to day viability depends on making bigger and bigger product releases each month. Putting a release on hold so that they can get the PTI house in order could result in a quicker collapse of the business because of loss of cash flow.
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder PTI seems tense and stressed and rude - I am willing to bet that the house that stamps built isn't paid in full and the business that seemed so golden is now really struggling. NH's creativity isn't here this month and I wonder if the stress of all of this is taking its toll on her that is manifesting itself in a loss in creativity.
Obviously none of us will ever know the behind the curtain business of PTI but it really seems like cash flow is a problem with this business.
I hate to say that watching this is fascinating, but from a business sense it is to me. However I feel badly for the actual real people (owners, employees, customers, and families) PTI's business decisions impact.

ReplyDeleteI wonder why PTI chooses to react curtly toward their customers rather than take the financial hit for 1 month and invest all their effort into fixing the things that are pissing everyone off. This, in the long run, will benefit them richly. It would turn PTI back into the cash cow it once was.
I won't pretend to have any business education or experience, but the cliche "fast nickel or a slow dime" comes to mind. Take the short term hit for the long term benefit.
I agree with whomever said previously that it does not have to be this way. They are spending more time and effort and anxiety kicking against the grain than if they were to just buckle down and make things better.
What a Cinderella story it would be if they could turn things around to be industry leaders in every way, not just in stamp designs. Can you imagine how we would all shout it from the rooftops?
As it is, I've already dissuaded one friend from ordering from them because of all the CS drama. And I've never personally had any issues with them. I also don't order any more because if I get burned it would be my own fault. I don't want the risk.

ReplyDeleteI know this is minor in the grand scheme of things, especially considering people who don't have anniversary sets from a year ago and pay methods that won't go through... but SERIOUSLY--who was the genius who didn't plan to have enough egg-shape dies on hand when they released a stamp set with which it coordinates (Scrambled Eggs)? And now it's what, 3 weeks 'til Easter? Still no egg die.
ReplyDeleteI'll just be saving myself the hassle and cutting them out by hand, so it's not the end of the world, but I'm still flabbergasted by the million little details that this company screws up on a regular basis, not to mention the huge flubs. I want to love them again, but at this point, I'm not sure they're ever going to be willing to do what it takes to gain back their customers' trust.
I also cannot fathom that none of the higher-ups (along with Jenn) seem to have the slightest idea of what proper business communication to customers looks like. Why does every other company I choose get it right? They maintain a professional dialogue if there are problems, and alert people BEFOREhand if there are potential minefields. PTI seems more likely to make me step 100 steps into the middle of a minefield, thinking I might have made it, only to shit my pants when the 101st step blows the whole field (and me along with it) to smithereens.
I guess they have the rest of the dt answering customer service emails! LOL! That will be as helpful as Jenn answering them I guess.

I thought I would add that a few days ago I ordered from a company that didn't have a state drop down box/field either. The zip code had automatically set that up though when all was said and done. Totally just sharing my experience... maybe it helps, maybe not. (Hopefully it does!)

Back when they did their 'Cancer is...' poem set I so wanted to post on the forum to see if they got permission and why they didn't use the copyright information.
ReplyDeleteI happened to stumble upon the author of that poem's website and he flat out said it wasn't to be used unless you got permission, and the you had to include his copyright info... (and of course now for the life of me I can't find the site)
I just did a quick google search and every site I found that had that poem on it said "Author Unknown". If there is a copyright issue, there are a LOT of websites that are guilty!

I believe it falls under fair use. It's not copying the entire song. I'm not an attorney so that's a layman's understanding. Though krillsister's son is a lawyer so maybe he could find out. Did you see where she mentioned the words "class action"?
I truly truly believe that the company thinks that their only problem is a few troublemakers on the forum who want to see pti go down. And they all have blinders on that they actually suck big ones.

Very few of us have ANY interest in seeing PTI fail. Most of us are long-time customers who feel that we're owed better service and treatment by a company in whom we've invested huge amounts of money and time.
Some of us have been PTI cheerleaders for so long that we've managed to give them lots of business via word of mouth - I know of at least 10 of my crafty friends who found PTI after using my stamps, and most of them have also spent pretty big bucks there.
I have left a Yelp review, but I stand by that. My review was posted as a warning to newbies who might not know what they're getting into when they purchase from PTI. My review mentioned my personal experience, but also praised PTI's designs and quality.
It's easier to believe that we're all angry miscreants who just have nothing better to do than try to "take PTI down" than to believe the truth, which is this:
PTI DOES NOT CARE ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS, EVEN THE RAINBOW FARTING UNICORN RIDERS.
You can defend them all you want, but the truth is that won't mean anything when you're caught in the endless loop they call "customer service". They'll treat you just as poorly as we've been treated, and I hope you'll be treated less condescendingly and more empathetically than you've treated those with very valid and long-standing issues.

A girl just posted that she was able to get her Gift Card Code to work properly but we are on page 2of the thread about web site issues.
So my guess is that when Dawn said techie was working very hard behind the scenes, she meant that someone spent a few hours feverishly inputting the proper codes for Gift Cards but overlooked absolutely everything else.
The fact that the Design Team is actually answering questions is evidence that PTI PTB know they are in trouble.
Just funny that it took so long for them to realize that.

Utterly pathetic the DT is now put in charge of answering CS questions. No slight to the DT, they all seem lovely, but it seems pretty obvious they were given orders to man the forum. I don't think it's coincidence they all show up in force today.

I don't think the DT was told to come on board, I think they circled the wagons and did it on their own. Nichole must be talking to them on the phone or something. There must be a hidden DT forum thread. I doubt she would share her concerns there since Julie and Jane would be able to see them. There must be some phone calls, or emails of an impending breakdown, and she just turned to them as friends. I work on a DT and I know that I would do anything to help the owner if I got an SOS call because I respect her so much.

We realize with the launch of our new website there have been many issues. Please accept our sincerest apologies if you have been affected by these problems, and know that we are working diligently to resolve the remaining issues as quickly as possible.
Due to the number of issues we have experienced, our customer service department has been working tirelessly to respond to every email that has been submitted to customer service. Much to our dismay, they have had difficulty moving through the backlog because of the time we are dedicating to each individual email, making sure each customer is taken care of to the best of our abilities. Because we are concerned that customers with critical issues are not being helped in an acceptable amount of time, we will be clearing out our customer service inbox so that those customers with critical issues can resubmit their email and be taken care of as quickly as possible. This clearing out will help eliminate many emails mentioning issues that have already been resolved due to the hard work put in behind the scenes with the website and allow those with current unresolved issues to the forefront and be better served.
We ask that anyone who has heard back from a customer service representative, to wait one week to resubmit their customer service email as the issue/issues may have already been resolved or will be resolved by the end of this week (3/16/2012).
Who should submit/resubmit an email to customer service:
· A customer with a missing order.

· A customer who has not received their template.
