  2. I'm looking for some new crafty blogs/You Tube channels to follow. Most of my regulars have sold out to DT crap, class pimping and sponsers. Any suggestions??

    ReplyDelete
  3. 9:02. You are so juvenile but for some reason I find it funny

    ReplyDelete
  4. Me too. And I too have sausage fingers.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I have sausage fingers too and it is my own fault. If I decide they are a problem to me, I will quit eating so much ice cream. They are a reality. For that reason if I were doing a stamping video I would let someone else's beautiful hands to the demo so I did not distract customers. I would also give them a good ink so they did not have to tap, tap,tap us all into insanity while we watched sausage fingers.

  6. It has been suggested that inventory might be an issue for PTI, since they don't retire things. I know, PTI never has a sale, but wouldn't you think it might be a good way to reduce inventory? Perhaps something that would offer a larger % off the oldest products? They could even protect themselves by only allowing what is in stock to be sold at a discount, and then have more made to sell again at the regular price if it causes new demand for an older set.

    Of course, it is only speculation that the inventory level is an issue, so then the rest of the theory isn't any good.

    ReplyDelete
  7. How about giving customers a free set of their choice of the non-selling sets whenever PTI does a screw up that involves them? You have to send out a replacement for a defective set? Throw in a free set. You have to replace a sentiment that is incorrect? Throw in a free set. They CAN write that off as promotional and free up their shelves.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Even with their massive inventory, I don't think they have enough to cover all their mistakes!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I triple-dog dare you guys to offer those suggestions up to Nichole on the PTI forum. Just don't come crying back to me if she slaps you down. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Can someone please explain how to pronounce the name Kowalczyk? Is it like "kowal-check" or am I way off base?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Is that something to be afraid of? Getting slapped down by NH? Puh-leeze!

    ReplyDelete
  12. "Kowal-zik"

    Thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. We are assuming they even keep all these items in stock. Is it possible that when someone orders an older set, the order could trigger the manufacturer to produce a batch? And could this be why orders take so long, because they wait until they have, say, 20 requests for a particular stamp? Im just guessing...i really have no idea how their system works.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 16.23, No. Older sets are either in stock or not. If at a nonrelease time, you order an older set that shows as in stock, your order will likely ship the next day or so. They certainly do not wait 2 weeks for sets to come in before they ship your order. The slow shipping times are only around release time.

  15. NH seems to be reducing inventory of DT, that's fo' sho! Did she only add one person? And lost, what, FOUR in the last 2 months?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think the whole DT thing could be looked at in two ways:

    She's just wanting to find the right people to replace those that have left, or . . .

    Some people have spurned the offer and she's having to search.

    I'm surprised at the replacement, I kind of saw Amber from DamaskLove being on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 18:08 - how many DT members are actually needed? I think it is more about showing a variety of styles than the number of DT members. Plus a few with creative ideas for stamps.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think the DT was too big. Right now there are 10 regular, plus 1 lite (Debbie Olson). That's plenty. Stamp designers are totally separate, and I don't care how many of those there are. A designer might be listed on the team but might release only 1 set a year. Fine with me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think stamp dt are well worth the free product to them. I bet it increases their sales by 100x. There are very few sets I would buy if it were not for dying over something Betsy or someone did that I never imagined. Well worth the $4 per large set that Nichole loses (but can write off on her taxes). I bet she sells thousands of dollars more each month due to the design team.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm a huge Cristina fan but I'm not that jazzed about her joining. I think Laura Bassen would be a better fit. Amber does PTI well but lately I just feel like she's trying to sell me something all the time. I hate Denami.

    ReplyDelete
  21. They should have asked Cindy Coutts, she would fit in with them perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  22. For the person in the last thread that mentioned Lily Belles paper, I also ordered the variety pack from Lily Belles. I can confirm that the paper is simply French Poptone CS, renamed with Lilly Belles' names. Same with Avery Elle. Her CS is French Poptone, renamed.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think PTI's biggest problem is the # of owners
    Say they net a respectable 10k per month
    That's 3333.33 per person ( about what i make at my full time job btw)
    Then I need to take $500 out of my profit for a month ( or two or three) to fix the website. Maybe I can afford it this month but the other two cant...and how many months can I survive at the reduced income?

    ReplyDelete
  24. As a small business owner, for an average of 5 years you take no income. You use all profits to build and secure. If they have been paying themselves all along, there is your problem. I am one third owner of a company and you can bet that if we get low on cash we don't take pay that month or maybe even for a few months. If you have any business background you know this going in.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Maybe Cindy, Amber and Laura were asked and declined. I do wonder, as someone else asked, how many artists decline when NH extends the invite to join the dt. I bet that would be *awkward* (said in my best Doug Heffernan.)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yeah, I don't think any of the PTI owners are making big bucks. People mention Nichole's house and possible pool, but I feel fairly certain those are provided by her husband's income. They lived in a nice house before she even started PTI.

    Also, Claire at Waltzingmouse prices her large sets just about the same as PTI, and I remember her mentioning that her accountant advised her she needed to raise prices. Her profit margin was that low. I don't think PTI is profiting anywhere near $20/set. They have to pay for warehouse space, warehouse workers, warehouse heat and electricity, website, shipping, etc.

    Running a business is not as simple as some of you seem to think.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why do the Wplus9 dies have a hole in them? Seriously considering the lighthouse & berry set.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think most people would be thrilled to be on the PTI DT. I don't think N has a problem with people turning her down. And I'm pretty sure the suggestion of Cindy Coutts was a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nichole, re: Michelle leaving:

    She have been such a valuable asset to our company and we really can't adequately express our appreciation for all she has done to contribute to our success.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm so glad everyone here is far too clever to make simple typos.

    ReplyDelete
  31. She's not an anonymous poster on a smack board. She is writing on her blog, as the owner of a company - she makes herself (as the owner and face of the company) and the company look stupid when she either can't bother proofread a few paragraphs, or is really too dumb to catch the errors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm surprised at the replacement, I kind of saw Amber from DamaskLove being on the team.
    -------------------------
    Me too! No offense to Cristina, but I just don't see any 'wow' in her cards.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 21:19, You left out a word, and you have a comma you shouldn't. As a representative of the smack board, you're making us all look bad.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And how a bunch of bitchy anonymous smackers look matters in the same way how a business website looks because?...

    ReplyDelete
  35. *"...how a business website looks matters because?...", that makes more sense huh! :-P

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, 100% sure that Cindy was a joke.

    I like Laura and Christina Maclaren's work and blogs. I don't see Amber on the PTI DT, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think that Amber would be a good fit. I like Cristina too though.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Amber does good work but her blogging style rubs me the wrong way.

    On another note, I was just visiting Erin's blog and there's a pic with a big ole' hair in it. Sorry, ewwww.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Was just looking over Maile's cards from the release. Her style is really clean and simple, but here lately her cards for PTI have seemed like she doesn't give a rat's butt. Maybe it's me projecting my concerns about the company onto her, though. But I noticed this, "Military Stars by Nichole Heady" I thought those military sets, both of them, were by Melissa Bickford?

    I know she's the DT and not NH, herself; but, (IMO) a senior DT member should know who designed the sets. Either know or don't say anything and just give us the set name.

    I wonder if there's something going on with her (illness, pregnancy, etc). She doesn't blog nearly as much as she used to and, again my perspective, she just seems to not have her heart in it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. A couple of months ago Maile mentioned she was in a dirt bike accident. It sounded like she injured her leg or foot. Maybe she's still rehabbing?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Here's where I think that this blog comes into play.
    Alongside with everything that is going on at PTI, everyone on the dt knows that every move that they make is going to be put under a microscope and disected here. That would make me less likely to want to put everything out there. It probably takes away some of the mojo too.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Amber would be perfect. She is one of the most innovative stampers out there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I totally think amber is talented, I just don't enjoy her blog or writing style.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I like Amber but she is real. I can't see her being ok babysitting the forum one day a week posting unicorn puke.

    Also, she did that make your own card base-ics post that might have hurt her chances

    ReplyDelete

    Perception is a weird thing. She comes off as a putting on a show for me. It's probably just enthusiasm, but it feels put on for me.

    ReplyDelete
  46. all the blog star wannabes are putting on a show. i can't even look at blogs any more without seeing etsy commercials, class pimping and sponsers, as the 2nd commenter posted. it's why bloggers blog. i don't see anyone posting their crafty stuff for the sake of the craft. who has time for all that extra work if they never get anything out of it?

    ReplyDelete
  47. i wasn't ripping on you, 7:08. just thinking to myself about how most blogs ARE put on.

    but maybe you were saying they shouldn't seem so obviously showy.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I blog purely for the fun of it. I don't even care if anyone sees it, because it is there for ME to go back and look at. It is the way I preserve my samples because I give the actual cards away. Blogging is fun. It is fun in the same way keeping a journal is fun. It is fun in the same way a photo album or scrapbook is fun.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Another boring, simplistic MIM.

    ReplyDelete
  50. So it looks like Rick's "5 posts need to be approved" method sucks. There are 2 spam posts on the forum.

    PTI's "IT dept" is a fucking joke!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I totally disagree 7:18, it isn't why I blog along many many many others. Folks add links so the ones that do come to their blog can find it easily if they are interested. And some people make the time for something they enjoy doing and sharing with others.

  53. 20:05, Wplus9 (and other manufacturers like MFT) put small holes in the dies so you can poke out the die cut if it gets stuck.

    ReplyDelete
  54. PTI dies are SO difficult because they lack the hole. Again, they make a lame excuse why they cannot do that and yet 3 other companies I buy from DO put the holes in.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dontcha know--it would cost PTI a few extra cents and we cannot have that taken away from the pool fund.

  57. Spam all over the PTI forum. Looks like the upgrade fookayed the approval method that was in place and was working very well prior to the upgrade.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I wish this blog had as much power as all you people keep claiming it does.

    I don't see much, if any, DT smack here EVER.

    So get over yourself, already.

    I doubt PTI Smack is causing all the hurt amongst the dt you claim it is.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I really like the MIM ... good thing we can have differing opinions :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. 8:50
    I agree, I think the owners of PTI are causing all the DT problems. NH is so b*#%€y on the forum...I can't imagine how she is to the DT.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I wish this blog had as much power as all you people keep claiming it does.

    I don't see much, if any, DT smack here EVER.

    So get over yourself, already.

    I doubt PTI Smack is causing all the hurt amongst the dt you claim it is.

    I posted that I thought the dt was affected by this blog. I meant that we discuss and disect every little aspect of PTI here. It is entirely possible that members of the dt do not like being put under a microscope and therefore are not blogging as much. I was referring to Maile but I do think that this blog did have some influence on Michelle and Lisa too. You don't have to be smacked to be concerned that every little thing you might say is going to be analyzed.
    You can have your opinion and I will have mine. And no, I am not a unicorn. I'm simply making an observation.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This blog is not taking down the DT. Nichole et al are doing it themselves.

    The folks here don't want to take down the DT. They just want a place where they can speak freely (good or bad) on PTI.

    I'm sure that DT and the unicorns read here. I'm sure they can't keep themselves away.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think it's not that anyone is going to smack or put DT under a microscope. If I were on the DT, I'd be less concerned about that (you can't keep everyone happy if you're true to your own muse and style), than being associated with the company. I wouldn't want to represent a company that is doing such a poor job and is getting such lousy PR. I'm sure the PTI DT used to be a primo spot - I don't think that's true anymore.

    The one I'd expect to see go is Debbie. Someone said she's "lite," right? She has plenty of other things going on, I doubt she needs PTI. I'm sure she likes their stamps/designs, but she has a fantastic reputation and I wouldn't want to degrade that if I were her. I love her blog and wonder sometimes why she's hooked up with such a bad company.

    ReplyDelete
  64. i wasn't ripping on you, 7:08. just thinking to myself about how most blogs ARE put on.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I know you weren't. And I realize that blogs are "for show". I guess I was just talking about blogs that feel so over eager. So preplanned. So calculated. It's like the effort to be clever/funny/innovative is sucking the life out of the process. Isn't this hobby supposed to be fun?
    I especially hate the trend of manufacturing reasons for making cards/projects. Mailman gifts, reading club favors, ladies tea party placecards...really? Just show me the project. I don't need a whole (faux) backstory.
    ReplyDelete
  65. Don't give yourselves any credit for Lisa and Michelle leaving the DT. You can only wish your words were that powerful.
    ReplyDelete
  66. 9:47, okay good...we are on the same page.
    I think the person who suggested the blog is negatively effecting the DT is not giving each of those women enough credit. You are assuming Maile doesn't have the chuzpah to have her craft put in the fish bowl. That is kind of insulting to Maile. And Lisa. And Michelle. And whoever leaves for greener pastures.
    These ladies deserve some credit for having the balls to put themselves out there in the first place. I think they display great courage for even being on the PTI DT.
    And, while I don't know a single one of them personally, I doubt a bit of criticism from this blog - in the rare occasion that any is written - is the straw that sends them all crying off the edge of blogland ala JoanB.
    ReplyDelete
  67. Omg
    Craftycindy used a comma in one of her posts!!!!!!!'
    Sorry for the personal smack...but her punctuation-less posts drive me batty!!!
    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm with you, it drives freaking insane trying to read something with no punctuation OR capitalization!! How do these people who can't write properly even GET a computer?!
    ReplyDelete
  69. Someone in here posted that their SU demo was willing to give them a 35% discount if they ordered before a certain time. Is that offer still good? I'd love to order a bunch of stuff but I don't have a demo.
    Is there some way you can send me your demos info and I can contact her? or are there any demos here that want my business?
  70. New Gallery Idol round is up...
    Any comments?
    ReplyDelete
  71. "New Gallery Idol round is up... Any comments?"
    Yeah... LittleMissT's card is HIDEOUS.... in a "how the @#$% did you make it this far into the competition if that actually looks good to you" way.
    Most are nice, but completely impractical as actual cards that would go through the mail (without a BOX to put them in).
    The ones that I see as standouts (in a good way): Aga, Elena, & Jennifer R.
    ReplyDelete
  72. You gals are crazy if you think a designer would TURN DOWN a spot on the PTI DT. Even given this blog, their customer service problems and all. All the speculation about stampers being asked and them passing on the offer would just not happen.
    Christina got asked because she has a great style, has a decent personal reputation, is published constantly (mostly using PTI already) and is on the top Paper Crafts lists all the time.
    I got the Cindy Coutts joke. And I think that girl would stand on her head while stamping to be on the team!
    And I agree with 10:14 -this blog would not deter any designer from taking a DT spot with PTI. Sorry to bruise your egos, but lots of stampers out there don't even know it exists!
    ReplyDelete
  73. Some people here have very poor reading comprehension skills. I don't recall it being said that a designer would turn down a dt position because of this blog. Carry on though.
    ReplyDelete
  74. The top 10 Gallery Idol cards are a big disappointment, but in fairness I HATE the "find stuff around the house" challenge crap. Everyone ends up focusing on being clever with the items, they forget to make a cute card.
    Having said that, I voted for Anita's spoon flower card. Close second was the matches card.
    ReplyDelete
  75. 12:34, I don't know who you are, or what post you made. I said "Even given this blog, their customer service problems and all" designers would not turn down a DT spot.
    Funny you comment about reading comprehension skills and completely missed what I said.
    ReplyDelete
  76. I guess I'm crazy then becuase there is NO WAY under any circumstances that I would take a position with PTI, even if they did clean up their act. Of course I have zero hope, I haven't been published or have a long resume. They most certainly don't want the average joe that can make nice cards and projects!
    ReplyDelete
  77. 12:44 -that's WHY you can say you would turn the spot down, because you have zero hope. But those designers who are published and popular would NOT turn down this opportunity. Trust me.
    ReplyDelete
  78. Re: Taheerah's entry for Gallery Idol. It creeped me out big time. So there's a kidnapper in the personal ads? What? Why the ransom note font with the ads for single ladies and men? Even if it wasn't totally creeptastic, it's ugly. It looks like a little kid's poorly-made collage for first grade. Taheerah creeps me out in general with her weird model poses in her photographs and always talking about how tiny she is (at least she used to all the time when I frequented the PTI forum). Get over yourself! I also really hate the one that uses plastic bags as the ocean. When so many sea creatures are being killed by the plastic in our oceans, it just seems in poor taste to me. I really like Joscelyne's card with the floppy disk, and I love Elena's because it uses stuff people might actually have around the house and looks great. Aga's cards have also been totally awesome so far.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I don't get the "this blog has no power" posts lately? One person on a rant?

    Maybe "lots of stampers" don't know this blog exists, but I guarantee the message is getting to the intended targets (for lack of a better word).

    ReplyDelete
  80. I wouldn't either. And not because of any criticism of my work either. Like an above poster, I would not want to be associated with the company. I wouldn't want to promote them for the same reasons that some of us don't purchase from them.

    And maybe not everyone reads here but there are a lot of people who DO read here or at least KNOW what kind of a mess PTI is in. I can certainly see where PTI's evolvingly negative reputation would affect finding people for the DT. It's not an automatic anymore.

    I and plenty others would consider themselves worthy of actually having "hope" -- and WOULD turn it down. In. A. Heartbeat.

    Where do you come off saying "trust me." Are you the same absurd "insider" who says "trust me" all the time??? When someone says "trust me," I instantly find what they are saying suspect. You are not all-knowing, all-seeing, and the arbiter of truth in every speculation. You're speculating along with the rest of us because you CANNOT speak for everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I guess some people here think that this blog does have some power and others think that it doesn't.

    I think that this blog has been a strong voice in PTI recognizing that they really do have to make some changes if they want to stay in business.

    IMO, this blog has had power in a good way.

    ReplyDelete
  83. If it's so dang great to be on the PTI team, why are DT members leaving? And why are they leaving on such mysterious terms?

    I'm sure there are many who would turn it down. Maybe the ones who say yes just don't know what they're getting into (yet).

    ReplyDelete
  84. I know of some well known designers that would turn down a PTI dt position.

    ReplyDelete
  85. The DT members photos and links in Nichole's left sidebar have always been in alphabetical order... why isn't Cristina inserted in the appropriate location?

    This may not seem like a big deal to most people but I thought it was odd. I don't think there's any "hidden meaning" in it..... I just think it's a lazy oversight.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The frustrated by PTI thread is still on the front page on SCS. I get so annoyed when I read stories like the one where the lady had to prove that her order was missing a die and then didn't get an apology.
    I am annoyed because it is so typical of PTI assuming that the customer is a swindler and a liar.

    ReplyDelete
  87. 13:28, The DT photos on Nichole's sidebar have NOT always been in alpha order. For a long time, she simply added new ones at the bottom. Then a few months ago, she reorganized them into alpha order. Now she just added Cristina at the bottom. Not "odd," just easy.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I've been published, in magazines and a book, have a somewhat popular blog, been on popular DT's and I love PTI products but would turn down an offer to be on their DT without hesitation. I would not be able to sleep at night.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Warren Buffet says "dont ever say or do anything you wouldnt want to see on the front page of a newspaper"

    ReplyDelete
  90. Do you think its possible that PTI makes only a few stamps for immediate release and then has more made to accomodate release night orders? Thats why a few people get orders right a way and other orders dont move for a week or more?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Then what about the numbers people report here where there are hundreds in stock? That would mean those numbers are lies, wouldn't it? I'm not sure I buy that.

    ReplyDelete
  92. No. It takes 2 weeks for stamps to be ordered and arrive from the manufacturer, not a few days or a week. You can see how many sets PTI has on hand by typing in a very large number as your quantity.

    ReplyDelete
  93. The reason some people get orders quickly and others take a week is that they can't pack a thousand boxes a day. So some go out the first day, some the second, some the third. Can't believe I have to explain that to you.

    ReplyDelete
  94. 1530. This is a discussion group - then explain to me
    why some companies can manage this in a more timely manner you ass

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am furious. CS (Julie) has closed my problem as solved, but she never credited my account!! So do I have to submit it again? She said she would take care of it right away and then put "solved" on it, but never did it.

    ReplyDelete
  96. So now we are defending their order processing?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Weren't we told, long ago, that orders are sent in the order received?

    ReplyDelete
  98. 15:40, if you are doing this through zendesk, you can just reply that you haven't received the credit yet, and that will reopen your ticket.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Some companies manage more consistent shipping because they don't have the volume spikes around release time. PTI has a huge volume around release time, but don't have the personnel to fill all those orders in a day or two. Other companies either don't have the huge volume on a couple days, or hire enough extra workers to handle the volume in those days.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think PTI needs to hire some extra workers to pack boxes on the 3 or 4 days after releases. Some college students, or some forum members, who would work just those few days a month. I don't know why they don't do that.

    ReplyDelete
  101. They really need to have a rule for themselves that they are not allowed to mark an issue as "solved" until they FINISH the action they are supposed to take. Not just say they will do it. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  102. How do you know that other companies don't see a spike in orders???

    If PTI can't handle the spikes without ridiculous problems then they shouldn't have the monthly releases. They can't handle the traffic on release night anyway - stop doing it.

    And an initial order of stamps may take 2 to 3 weeks, perhaps less. There is also going to be a minimum sheet # order and volume discounts. They could order a minimum and then resupply - resupplies can take less time, but it depends on how busy the manufacturer is.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I do believe that you can just reply to your zendesk ticket that it isn't solved and that will reopen it.

    ReplyDelete
  104. 15:47, you have your head up your ass. Of course other companies have spikes in sales after a release! WTF? You honestly think Julee at Verve gets as many orders 2 days BEFORE her release as the day AFTER? Gina K, WMS, MFT? All of them don't get spikes after a release?

    Go away and come back when you can contribute intelligently!

    ReplyDelete
  105. You don't think that SU is inundated with orders right now after the new catalog comes out? And yet I got my order in 4 business days.

    ReplyDelete
  106. All I'm saying about other companies is that EITHER they don't have such a big volume spike that it overwhelms their existing workers, OR they hire extra workers to handle the volume spike. If they get their release orders out in a day or two after their releases, one of those scenarios has to be the case. That's just logic. Of course I think other companies have some sort of volume difference around releases, but it might not be a HUGE spike. Their existing workers might be able to handle it. Since PTI's obviously can't, I think PTI should hire temp workers at releases.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I'm sure SU hires a whole army of workers to fill new catalog orders.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I think it was said that orders are shipped in the order received but i also think that it wasnt the case when people compared order numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Funny how Nichole gets smacked for her snitty snotty answers and belittling, yet the people right here do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Because Nichole is trying to sell us something. That is why she should mind her manners. We give her our money and she OWES us product and decency in exchange.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think part of their problem with getting out the orders is all of the extra packaging up that is involved. I think that they have to fold those plastic boxes, add the stamps and other misc. contents such as the labels and directions, apply the belly bands, wrap them in tissue, and THEN they are ready to ship. It's not just like take the box off the shelf and put it in another box ready to go. That seems to be the part they need to A) eliminate as everyone said before or B) hire more people to actually get the sets ready. Then c) also hire more people to actually pack the boxes to ship or at least to drive them to the local post office all day!

    ReplyDelete
  112. So do all the packaging BEFORE the release. I worked in retail and nothing was available to the customers or even shown to them until everything was absolutely ready to sell immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I don't know for sure, but I always imagined the sets were already packaged in their clear boxes with belly bands BEFORE the release and just had to be put into boxes for shipping to customers.

    ReplyDelete
  114. If you think that NH is not making a killing and paid for that house and pool you are delusional. The house they moved from was peanuts compared to the new place.

    ReplyDelete
  115. The "spike in volume" excuse is as lame and tired as the "growing pains" excuse. We've heard it all over the past five years and I have ZERO expectation that it will ever be fixed.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Think how long it takes to box up 600 sets...and that is just say "Lovely Layers" and not the other 6-7 sets released! Sometimes the DT members/Nichole say that they don't even have the product that long before the release. Plus, what if they get shipment of out of stocks from last month that need to be boxed up, too? I think that they are probably spending a good portion of workdays boxing product. The point being, they need someone ELSE to be doing this every week. Remember when the person from the forum volunteered to help and she got turned down? They should have PERMANENT staff, then, that does this every day. How CAN all of the other stuff get done? I think lack of girl/man power is their number one problem.

    ReplyDelete
  117. pti obsessed, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Their computer worked last night ...theres a shipping number. Now i bet it sits til Thursday for their weekly shipping. There is NO sense of urgency

    ReplyDelete
  119. PTI could always outsource their shipping tasks and customer service.

    My sister works for a company who does this. When you order from many major online retailers, the orders get picked, packed and shipped by her company. Undercover Boss even did an episode on her company.

    I don't know how they do it....how does the merchandise get to their facility? Do they keep inventory for these companies? Does each company rent warehouse space? Lots of questions come to my mind but somehow, they pull it off.

    And when a client has issues with the product they receive, my sis's company takes the calls and deals with it. It seems like this arrangement would take a ton of the burden off PTI and let them focus on what they are good at...producing a stellar product.

    ReplyDelete
  120. It's called a fulfillment center. Many fast-growing businesses outsource their warehousing, customer service, and shipping to a company that specializes in this. They're more equipped to handle sikes in volume and they generally have their processes in good order. We looked into it when we had our (small,but growing, stamp) business.its quite expensive and you really have to have your act together re: product ready to go in plenty of time. You also have to ship everything to their warehouse prior to the first sell date. This is fine if you're getting a shipment in from China, for example. Just have it shipped there. But if you have to do any assembly yourself, such as putting stamp sets into clear boxes with a label, then you end up with double shipping (before you even encounter shipping expense to the customer).

    That all said, yes, I agree, PTI should absolutely use a fulfillment center. It would release them to do what they do best: product design and marketing. They should leave the rest of it to the experts.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I just read on the SCS thread that Amber Shaw never received her anniversary set from last year. I doubt she is the only one. Wow. Just wow.

    ReplyDelete
  122. 19:21, I know what you're saying - that they get bogged down in prepping items for sale. But I take issue with one sentence: "Sometimes the DT members/Nichole say that they don't even have the product that long before the release." This is just poor management. They should have the items for the release well in advance - no one's fault but their own.

    I agree about the fulfillment center and think they should sell their stamps through other stores.

    ReplyDelete
  123. They don't, and won't, sell through retail stores because they would cut into their profits. I've heard people complain about MFT's die prices. They're high because they sell wholesale as well as retail. PTI sells retail-only for pure economics: they get to keep the retail cut. It also means they can sell card stock for a lower price and hook you that way.

    I assure you, PTI has made a boat load of cash. However, they now have a huge inventory to maintain. That's like having money just sitting in the warehouse gathering dust if it's not moving. The larger the inventory, the harder it is to make a profit and the more cautious you have to be about inventory control. If orders have slowed down, they could be in trouble. I doubt it though, as they've had huge success for 5 years now. They should have an adequate cushion for this. And believe me, they have plenty of money to hire adequate customer service staff. They just don't want to.

    ReplyDelete
  124. They may be draining the company dry each month rather than using a good business model. Nichole built that house long before the business was solid. Not a good money manager.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Lion Through Their Teeth19 June 2012 at 07:53

    I know it's been said repeatedly that they should skip one release to fix the previous release(s) problems. But another advantage to putting the next release off one month (and then maintaining that extra breathing room going forward) would be that the DT would have the next release 5 weeks ahead instead of one (or whatever time they get it now). And all the prep and packaging could be done ahead so they were all ready to pack & ship. Not only that, they might even have all the new products in stock on release night. (ya think?)

    I just don't understand why they do everything the hard way. They'd save so much energy and money, not to mention customer goodwill, just doing it right in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Damn, I am so frustrated. I am the person who posted yesterday that they put "solved" on something they did nothing about. So I sent it back and said it was not solved. Today I got another one labeled "solved' saying they WILL fix it sometime, but in the meantime it is solved. HUH?? I still don't have my credit.

    ReplyDelete
  127. You really think one month off would solve the problems? It is not a lack of time, it is a lack of decent management. They have had 3 years now of continuous problems. If those problems could be fixed in one month why weren't they fixed in 3 years?

    ReplyDelete
  128. That's ridiculous. I can't believe it - "solved" doesn't mean anything to them, I guess.

    You know, maybe their business grew rapidly but they started having problems after only a couple of years. And their problems seem to be getting worse rather than better. I think they've plateaued with their offerings, too. There is a lot more competition than when they started up. I think a lot of people have built them up in their minds but I don't think they have staying power unless they turn around their customer service - drastically and FAST. Otherwise, I don't see them staying in business.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You know how it is rumored that servers at restaurants will spit in your food if they don't like you? I am pretty sure that PTI spits in my order, so to speak. I have a problem every single time and have been outspoken with Julie. Maybe it is just paranoia, but how can it be that I have not ordered for 6 months after 3 problems in a row before and now this order has another problem. What percent of their orders are problem free? I am beginning to think it is either 2% or they are out to get me.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Omg how funny!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I also wonder (and hope) that more unicorns hopped off the bandwagon when they saw NH bite Ted's head off the other day. Ted was their biggest advocate. I would think having his hand slapped so hard would make some pause & think. I say "I hope" only wanting more faithful to send PTI a message, not because I enjoy their downfall.

    ReplyDelete
  132. @8:17 - what problems have you had with your orders?

    ReplyDelete
  133. 5:59, I wrote about my sis's job in the "fulfillment center" and wanted to thank you for explaining it to me. I never really understood why a company would even need one but with PTI as the example, it totally hits home now.

    ReplyDelete
  134. 8:04, at this point can you reply again with a comment saying something like "i don't consider this solved until my refund has been issued and is received by my "?

    ReplyDelete
  135. @7:35

    "Not a good money manager." Seriously???

    Unless you are Nicole's accountant or have first hand knowledge of her finances, don't make statements like that. And what business is it of yours anyway what she does with her money?

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm not 7:35, but what other conclusion can we come to when owner's of a successfully and admittedly (by them) flourishing business don't appear to be investing back into the company?

    Either they aren't truly flourishing or they are mismanaging their profits. Or someone is stealing from them (must be all those pesky customers with fake zendesk claims) or they are losing the money (doubtful.)

    I cannot attest to her personal finances, because you are right, I'm not her accountant or privy to her bank statements, but I can kind of tell that something in the water at PTI stinks.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Thank you 10:10! I am sick of everyone here assuming how Nichole got the money to build her house. "the house that stamps bought". I mean come on, nobody really knows. Maybe a freaking home LOAN like everyone else?

    I don't doubt that PTI makes money on the whole, but profit being paid out 3 ways (assuming they all 3 take a salary) may not amount to all that much. I have owned a small business before and there is A LOT of cost that goes into running a business. For years I never even took a salary. We don't know what the profit on each stamp set is, there is more to account for than just the actual cost of manufacturing the sets.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I do think, though, that PTI is way more successful and bigger than Julie or Jane ever thought it would be.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I just wonder why they aren't making visible moves to manage that growth here 5 years later. Isn't that enough time to get some basic things (like shipping the product) down pat?

    I'm way better at my job now than I was 5 years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  140. @10:21

    So you know for a fact thay they aren't investing the money back into the company?? Really??

    If you can't back up your comments with proof don't speculate.

    Someone is stealing????

    Really?? Again, do you have proof? Assuming again???

    How do you people come up with all these absurd accusations??
    Now we know how rumors get started.

    ReplyDelete
  141. So Ted started a post about his Smokey Shadow ink looking black. And there are plenty of folks chiming in. Any bets on how much time passes before Nichole locks the thread, stating that while there is value to customers sharing their experiences, it is a customer service issue best suited for Zendesk.

    Tsk, tsk, Ted. Haven't you learned already? Or are you a glutton for punishment?

    ReplyDelete
  142. How many times will people keep buying PTI ink? This is what, the third formula? " Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me."

    ReplyDelete
  143. Between the ink thread and not being able to get good coverage with that barn wood background stamp, I think that Ted is just smarting from that bitchy comment that Nichole made and he is trying to get even.

    ReplyDelete
  144. 12:15, he's doing a good job. Replying to every comment and pushing that puppy to the top of the forum list.

    Ah, need to make some popcorn. . .

    ReplyDelete
  145. 11:38 I believe the stealing comment was tongue in cheek. Did read the entire statement :-)

    ReplyDelete
  146. 12:24, thank you for taking it the way I meant it.

    To clarify, before 11:38 hyperventilates, I was proposing possible solutions to where they might be putting the money they are making from selling PTI products.

    Yes, conjecture on my part that they aren't doing anything to benefit PTI's numerous problems with their profit. And I'm SPECULATING BECAUSE I DON'T *SEE* any solutions. Doesn't mean there aren't any. It just means I DON'T SEE THEM.

    Even though theft and loss are valid places money can go, I was JOKING when I proposed someone was stealing or losing their money...

    Man, honey, unclench. People like YOU taking things out of context is also how rumors get started.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I would be thrilled to have a mansion that stamps built. It would mean my stamps are so kickass that I moved on up to the East Side, in my Deee-luxe apartment in the sky-y-y.

    So, 10:10 and 10:26, other's may mean that phrase negatively, but I wouldn't let it ruffle my feathers too much if I were either of you guys. Having a house that stamps built would be a nice living indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I would love to know who 10:10/11:38 is.

    Sounds like either a crazed PTI unicorn loyalist or someone with a vested interest in PTI.

    Anyone NOT in those 2 categories wouldn't care enough to get in a frenzy over some people discussing PTI like we are here.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Ya know ... I've been thinking a lot lately about NH's snarky response to Ted. My first thoughts were, "That is SO unfair. Poor Ted!" But over time I've really moved towards, "Ted kept sticking his hand (full of money) into that cage, he gets what he deserves." In other words ... ANYONE who has continued to order from PTI deserves every bit of sh*t they get. They have fed the monster that attacks them. Am I alone in thinking this way?

    ReplyDelete
  150. @ 11:38

    Obviously you haven't had an issue with something missing.... Every time something is defective or missing you get the third degree from Julie who has all but told people flat out that they were trying to steal product from them.

    No one ever said the owners were stealing from the company. How about you stop defending PTI with every bone in your body?

    ReplyDelete
  151. I agree, 13:22. They raised my eyebrows by using the term, "you people". Ummm, ok. You're not one of us, yet you are lurking here. Defensive much?

    ReplyDelete
  152. I'm certainly not thinking your way 13:28! While he may annoy some, he does try to be helpful, he wants the company to succeed and is always tactful. Under no circumstances should an owner of a company treat someone that way! I have no clue how much he spends every month but he is a regular customer.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I don't think what NH said to Ted was that bad. She has reached out to him personally (sent him a goat stamp she found), so she probably felt she could respond to him.

    But Ted IS getting back by posting about the barn background (and specifically mentioning an other brand) and now the ink.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I'm not 10:10 or 11:38, but I agree with her/them. There are a lot of absurd speculations made on this board. And all the references to Nichole's house just make people sound petty and jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I don't think that Nichole should have responded to Ted the way that she did. They are not friends. Even if they were, it was entirely unprofessional.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I am not a fan of the way that Ted is vocal about the customer service issues but continues to openly buy from them. It's none of my business but I find it hard to take him seriously.

    That being said, Nichole should never have spoken to him that way on the forum. In private would have been different, but it reminded me of the pissing match that she got into with omath.

    ReplyDelete
  157. About Ted sticking his hand in the cage deserving the bite he gets: I kind of see your point. The baby monster has grown up and while the unicorns might hope that because they have fed it with their love and loyalty it would grow up to be good, the reality is that it is and always has been a monster to the core and will not change. I have heard it is very dangerous to raise large cats like lions and tigers as pets because you can't train their predatory nature out of them as they grow, and they will never lose the instinct to attack if sufficiently provoked.

    The more time goes on that PTI continues to have the same problems over and over, the more I think that they will never fix them because the company has been dysfunctional from the beginning due to personality "issues" with the 3 owners and whatever corporate culture exists at the parent company Heskamp Printing. Because really, they've had plenty of time to see the problems and make the necessary corrections; they have just never chosen to. What kind of crazy do you have to be, to not choose to fix what is going wrong with your company over and over again?

    Unless they want to but just don't know how... but that would mean they are phenomenally incompetent as business owners because many of the fixes are so obvious that all of us over here are getting skull fractures from all the banging of our heads on our desks we are doing.

    ReplyDelete
  158. OMG, enough with the damn "Nicole's mansion. Or mansion this or mansion that." That house is no where near mansion size. It's a nice, comfortable home for sure. Mansion, no way. Jeesch people.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Omg I about to defreind someone over their constant
    "vote for me for gallery idol" plea's! Enough already!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Totally in agreement with 14:28!

    ReplyDelete
  161. I do not begrudge NH her home. I just think she lacks respect for her customers, in a way that leaves me speechless! I hope their sales are reflecting that. That's all.

    ReplyDelete
  162. ^^^THIS, totally.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Anyone find it interesting that there are still 92 SAF tote bags available! hahaha!

    ReplyDelete
  164. I find it interesting that someone on the forum had her order shipped twice even after she sent a note to customer service asking them to cancel the duplicate order.

    I would be dotting my i's and crossing my t's to make sure that the order got back to them and that I didn't get charged return postage.

    ReplyDelete
  165. craftycindy said -I'm sitting here looking at a box full of double orders happened to me twice back to back on release months early in the year but it was when CS was very slow and I think I woulld have had to paid return postage not sure though, so one day I will put this stuff for sale.

    So rather than trying to return 2 duplicate orders, she just kept them? I guess that's one way for PTI to make money. Just make it too much of a hassle for people to contact customer service for issues like these.

    ReplyDelete
  166. More often than not, family businesses are crooked and dysfunctional. There's so much that gets let go or not done the right way because one can't tell off or fire a family member. People come out of the woodwork looking for money, or feel they are entitiled to make this or that much, and very soon the profit disappears. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of PTIs profit gets divvied up and hence no money for improving the business aspect of it (website, customer service, etc).

    ReplyDelete
  167. Or are they looking for an offer from someone to take the business off their hands. So they dont want to invest more money in it?

    I AM NOT SAYING that this is fact or fiction I am saying its a thought I have!

    ReplyDelete
  168. I still don't get how any business owner would not be bending over backwards and moving heaven and earth to protect their business reputation? Okay, hire only family. Ignore customer feedback. Don't keep adequate stock (or reduce inventory). Those choices are sending your name and reputation circling down the crapper. But, if a smack blog going several months strong doesn't make you genuinely patch up a sinking ship, then may you RIP next to titanic.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Lol! Does anybody else find this funny? Tracking showed that duplicate orders had shipped but somehow one of the orders had not really left the warehouse yet. :-D

    ReplyDelete
  170. @14:28 - yes! Thanks you for clarifying exactly what I meant (I am 13:28, #1). You said it much more thoroughly and coherently than I did.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Clearly there's been something else going on at PTI and Nichole is very frustrated. I think she knows that CS is in the crapper, but her hands are tied as she is not there physically and because she is obviously dubbed the creative force and the J's are shipping and CS. Also, she seems like a control freak and perfectionist so this has got to be eating her up inside.

    I mean think about it, could you imagine 3 strong headed, successful women not agreeing about something? Look how things go down here!

    Now I'm not sticking up for her, or her actions. But when people are backed into a corner their worst does tend to come out.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I agree, mostly, with 20:00. What I would add is that this is all the more reason for NH to step away from talking to customers. They need a PR person to do all of their communicating, as none of the owners have the ability to do it successfully.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Yep ... pretty much a two-step fix. (1) Get a decent website (2) The owners need to stop talking.

    Not rocket science, but PTI likes to make things as difficult and complicated as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Well, let's add a third step-- they really need to get a handle on their warehouse operations. Picking and shipping. Too many ridiculous blunders there.
