PTI stands for Papertrey Ink. This is a collective smack blog and Papertrey Ink review page. Papertrey Ink's continuously poor customer service has lead to a page dedicated to discussion of this stamp company and recommendations for alternative stamp companies. Minimal censorship here- I prefer to leave it up to posters' discretion.
The opinions posted on this blog belong to our visitors and we are not paid for our honest reviews ;)

i love weekends. hope y'alls are having a good one.
7:18 - Yes. They delete any comments that are less than raving suck-up quality. That goes for NH's blog, the PTI page, and the forum. I get that it is their right to project a polished image but it's just so icky when they can't back it up. It's not one or two "rebels" posting negative comments, it's average customers asking legit questions b/c there is no place else for them to ask. Thats why I come here.
In response to 7:18 - do you have any idea how many customers PTI really has?? This blog and all you who spend WAY too much time here, are a very small portion of that number. And honestly, you just go on, and on, and on and on. Push away from the computer! Go outside and breathe some fresh air! If PTI means so little to you, put them behind you and MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE! If they actually fail, you can sit back and gloat.....but if not, what will you do with your time? This is my first and last look at this waste of time. Don't bother to reply, I won't be here to read it.
We do NOT want them to fail and will not cheer if they do. Many of us love PTI products and are hanging on by the fingernails hoping against hope that they will make a comeback.
08:48.... says the person who has never been treated badly, or never had a problem that cost them massive amounts of time and money and frustration, or has never had the people there, employees, owners or customers, speak in a condescending and demeaning tone.
I'm pretty happy that person will not be back here.
And I also believe that there are plenty of people who read this blog and never post, plenty who read the CS threads and questions that have been on the PTI forum, and on SCS, and on blogs. And plenty who respond that they are so happy to have found out that it will be a crapshoot to purchase from PTI.
Looks like I'll be joining some of you guys in buying the Fresh ink line. Whoever posted it before, I'm in on the Knockoff SAF party. I'll be using Fresh inks as my first knockoff.
OK, Lion, here's my take on the two greens you asked about. AMuse Grass is what I use for Simply Chartreuse. Fresh Ink Basil is my choice for New Leaf.

@7:51, I have Cheery Lynn dies and impression plates. I like them a lot, they are very thin as well, and they came quick. The woodgrain impression plate is not as life like as PTI's, but still nice.

Just an FYI, the Fresh Ink Color chart on the Impress site is not very accurate when it comes to the blues, IMO. All their blues are lovely, but the chart is a bit off.
I'd like to place another Amuse order...Anyone know Nancy's last name? I need to know to shop online, and can't remember who I used last time I purchased Amuse Studio product.
This is their annual 20% off online. Their other sales are usually 10% and sometimes 15%, but this is the big one. In the fall they have a 20% Customer Appreciation day in their actual stores. Now is the time to buy.
To answer the question at the end of the last thread, about multiple shots of the same card from the same angle: I do think that's redundant and kind of silly. Don't put in multiples of the same thing just to have multiples!
Sometimes, though, I like lots of pictures. My laptop's screen is really wide, but really short. And my brain's short-term memory is limited. So pictures scroll up and get forgotten while I am reading the descriptions beneath them. I really prefer, if the descriptions are long and involved, that they are interspersed with pictures that show what is being described. That way I don't have to keep scrolling up and down to get the full experience of seeing what I am reading about. Better if the pics are all different shots of the project, though! Ha.
Yes, I do have Nancy's email. I don't want to post it here in the comments, but I'll pass it along if you contact me (cdjks on PTI forum; cdjkssss on SCS, or my email is on my blog).
Nancy was great about answering some questions I had about some A Muse ink I bought secondhand. I ordered online (her ID is 1137) on the 18th and got it on the east coast yesterday.

When she, herself, hot links and then preaches at everyone else about NOT hotlinking...yeah, it's an issue. She's here today gone tomorrow just like Lisa whats-her-name from Creating Keepsakes. Not as all that as she thinks she is.
Lion, I wanted to buy several more as well but I also want to place an order with MFT. I ordered from SNSS and WPlus9 too. Rainy weekends are not good for my wallet.
Glad I'm not the only one! Shoulda known that would make sense to stampers. I have a wishlist at WPlus9 and a couple other places...better not go look at them 'cause it's still snowing...
I do think the MIM was helpful in that some don't know how the Xyron works. Also when I first started using it I die cut first and then ran it through the machine and it took me awhile to figure out to run cardstock through first and then cut.
I ordered from Impress yesterday evening and the shipping charge was wrong. I called the store and was advised to send an email with my order number which I did. Just received an email crediting my account. Now that's CS!
If you are doing small letters or delicate things through the Xyron, cutting after keeps things from being distorted and saves space between on the adhesive tape. You can save the scraps and use them again later as long as you leave the backing on it.
With the Xyron, why is it best to run the cardstock first and then die cut? ------------------
You can do it either way, but I think you get a "cleaner" adhesive if you Xyron then cut... none of those "glue boogers" that sometimes straggle off the edge when you run the already die-cut piece through.
I stamped for years before getting a Xyron and now I have 3 sizes. I only wish I had gotten one sooner. You can get them and the refills at JoAnns and Michaels and Hobby Lobby with your 40 and 50% off coupons. I stay stocked up on the refills this way.
A few people commented that their post counts had dropped, and Rick explained that he prunes old threads that haven't been read in more than a year, in an effort to speed up forum response times. I think it's a fine thing to do. No point keeping around threads that haven't been read in a year.
I used to run a large forum and had to delete old posts regularly. Boards can start running really slow as they get more and more postings as well as members.
I hate it when I only want to order $20 or $30 of something and shipping is another $8-$10 on top of that. I don't have the budget to place $50-$75 orders just for the free shipping. I am sad to see that about Flourishes, because I have more than a few of their stamp sets on my wish list I'd like to have! MAYBE they are willing to charge you actual shipping cost (and use a less-expensive option than a flat-rate box) if you ask them? I dunno. Worth a shot maybe?
Rick has got his feelings hurt and left, at least 3 or 4 times now (including when he was posting as Mutt). He hairflips like a girl. With hair. =========== Rick didn't "get his feelings hurt." He stopped posting because he thought maybe it was doing more harm than good.
Thanks for your input 21:47. It may be worth asking. It was a stamp set, a tiny die, and some ribbon. I really like the stuff, but it feels like a whack to the head to pay almost 25 percent shipping. I don't mind bumping an amount up if it means I've got something to enjoy in product, but I'm not going to bump up $17.00 worth for "free''' shipping! Grr......
$9 bucks in shipping.....I know that's bad but try being international....shipping starts at $32 ......just for ONE stamp set. Don't even look at cardstock.
Why can other companies send for so much cheaper? Oh that's right, because they want your business.
I had the same problem with Flourishes and I let them know I was not ordering with their shipping rates. They emailed back saying those rates were not correct and they would adjust it after I placed m order. I told them too bad, I already ordered what I wanted from someone else. There are a few places that sell Flourishes stamps, not sure about their dies though. Here's where I ordered from: http://www.chicandsavvycrafters.com/servlet/the-Stamps-cln-Clear-stamps/Categories
"Rick didn't "get his feelings hurt." He stopped posting because he thought maybe it was doing more harm than good." --------------------------------- Well that's not what it looked like to me, but if you say so, my mistake and I apologize.
We don't know what is happening at Papertrey in the truest sense, because any complaints at all are no longer allowed on the board so people can only ask, "Do you store your Copics by color?" or "How many dots of glue do you put on each layer of your card?" or "Do you love the smell of your ink pads?"
Oh, yes. Impress. I am tracking my A Muse package and misspoke. BTW, I ordered my A Muse package yesterday morning and it is probably going to be delivered today. How can that even happen!
I ordered 6 inks and 8 refills, one die, and 4 packages of the gingham Memory Box packets, and a few little bits of this and that, from Impress. Ordered 2 inks and 2 refills, and one package of assorted gingham cardstock from A Muse.
Anyone else see another ink debacle brewing over at PTI? First there was the post about Smokey Shadow and now a couple people are noticing an issue with the Lemon Tart and Harvest Gold.
I just wanted to share another example of good customer service in the wake of a supply problem.
At the end of February, I order the new TH Distress Markers from iCopic on a preorder. It was a good price with free shipping but there were many orders before mine.
There has been a supply issue and I have received several updates on the status of my preorder.
Yesterday I received this: Ranger is continuing to work day and night to manufacture the Distress Marker Single markers and sets and has recently provided us with pictures of their staff putting the sets together. Although this appears wonderful, we are still unable to lock down a date of when we will be receiving a shipment from them. Ranger is currently behind on thousands of orders and unfortunately even with the recent shipment we are unable to tell our customers an exact update of when your order can be filled. To our best ability, we can say that we should be able to fill the majority of your orders by June. With that said, we want everyone to know that if we receive a shipment from Ranger your order will be shipped immediately to you by Rush shipping service. Until Ranger processes our order in its entirety, there is not much we can do but to continue to provide you with any progress or dates of expected arrival as we receive firm confirmation. If you have found Tim Holtz Distress Markers at your local store we encourage that you make your purchase with them immediately and contact us so that we can issue you a full refund immediately. Once again, we apologize for the delay and any inconvenience this may have caused you.
I did cancel my order and found the markers elsewhere but not before thanking iCopic for their upfront attitude. It lost them a sale this time but it didn't lose them a customer. Big difference.
Oh, and I received my credit within minutes of canceling my order.
I placed my Impress order on Sunday as well. I ordered all of the ink refills (I make my own ink cubes), several Memory Box dies, a few embellishments and a few other items. That's $300 that PTI is out this month. Shame...
Ink Stink - thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check iCopic out.
That reminds me...I wanted to share a PTI-like customer service issue I encountered recently. I bought some art supplies from a 3rd party Amazon supplier. When I got my package, one of the products was ripped open and only half of its items were scattered throughout the shipping box. I contacted the company through Amazon's website and asked for a refund (since this company's policy is not to reissue shipment). However, I had to repackage the items, use my own money to ship the items back, and only upon receipt of those items would they refund my shipping and the original purchase cost. Note that this item cost a whopping $7 with tax.
I guess some companies have to learn the hard way... :face:
I ordered 10 Fresh Ink pads, and 6 re-inkers because of the sale...only 12 colors left to get. I was introduced to them about a year and a half ago, they are SO wonderful! Have about 10 A Muse pads too, and they are just as great!
Random question of the day: What is your #1 online place to buy, now that you don't spend all of your money at PTI?
^^ I am still trying to find my new place. So far this year I have spent a crap load of money at Ellen Hutson, Impress, EK Success, and random 3rd parties at Amazon. I also want to try out Clear & Simple stamps. WPlus9 and WMS look good, but I don't think they have enough product for me to spend "big bucks" on.
Let's just all register from the new Zen forum and bombard it with all our issues.10 bucks says they keep it up and running for a week before they decide to shut it down due to 'technical difficulties' caused by the Zen service that is 'beyond their control'.
Separating my stamp sets by category has shown me that I have absolutely no reason to be spending big bucks with anyone any more. And indexing my inks showed me that I already own over 200(!) ink pads, so I have no excuse for buying more of those either. I'm going to do my best to not get sucked into another "big bucks" store again. I'm trying to restrict my spending to consumables and filling in certain gaps. Wish me luck.
I've spent all my PTI money at Simon Says Stamp. I can get a mix of products from different companies at once + papers and embellishments etc. and the shipping is extremely reasonable (international). They ALWAYS email you if there is a problem and respond to questions.
I ordered 27ink pads and received the shipping notice today. First time to order their inks and if it's as wonderful as everyone says, I'll get the rest to complete the colors. Wish they offered free shipping though because if they did I would've ordered the dies and stamps too. lol!
If any of you ever get a chance to visit the largest of the Impress Stores in Tukwilla, WA, plan on being there for hours. It has such cool stuff! I go there about every 3-4 months when we go to Seattle for medical appointments.

ReplyDeleteI will go stamp my Fresh and Amuse inks and report back...
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a comprehensive list of Impress ink matches to PTI colors?
ReplyDeleteIs the sale at impress going on now? or did I miss it already?
ReplyDeleteSo, based on Christies post at the end of the last thread, they are still treating customers like garbage?
ReplyDeleteImpress Online sale starts tomorrow. You will get the code on FB if you have "liked" them and get the updates.
ReplyDelete6:12, see yesterdays thread.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate the comparisons for Amuse and Fresh inks. Can anyone compare Amuse Grass and Fresh Basil? How close are they?
ReplyDeleteAnd which is the best Pure Poppy-ish red - Amuse Cherry or Fresh Red Currant?
I recently bought a few of both Amuse & Fresh and, I gotta say, I'm hooked. But I don't want to duplicate colors.
I am pretty sure you won't get any duplicates but some might be rather close. Since I have none of the A Muse (yet) I cannot comment on that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna. It's probably delusional for me to even think I won't end up buying all colors in both lines. ;)
ReplyDeletehas anyone had experience with Cherry lynn dies? There website features detailed videos Really intricate designs.
ReplyDeleteFresh Red Currant is definitely NOT a match for Pure Poppy. It's too pink. Pretty color, though.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure? My Red Currant (Fresh) is a true red and if anything a bit on the blue side.

Online Impress order is in!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou can order online today if you are a FB friend.

ReplyDelete@ 7:51: I have a few of the Cheery Lynn doily dies (PTI carries one of them under a different name), and they work wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteMy advice to you, though, is get the metal shim if you don't have it. It makes those little chad pieces so much easier to remove.
The metal shim is a must have IMO when you use thin dies with detail.

Thanks, InkStink!
I agree with Ink Stink on those greens.
ReplyDeleteJust an FYI, the Fresh Ink Color chart on the Impress site is not very accurate when it comes to the blues, IMO. All their blues are lovely, but the chart is a bit off.
ReplyDeleteHow often does Impress have sales. I would love to get some of their ink, but not in a position to right now.
ReplyDelete@ 8:48 We discussed this two days ago. Please try to keep up if you are going to stalk / handslap the smack blog.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to place another Amuse order...Anyone know Nancy's last name? I need to know to shop online, and can't remember who I used last time I purchased Amuse Studio product.
ReplyDeleteImpress appears to have sales twice a year. No need to research this blog to find out.
ReplyDeletethis place brings out the absolute worst in a few people. You are here to smack rude customer service. No need to act like you deserve it.

Kristina is a professional. I don't blame her for asserting whatever rights she thinks she has!
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean you cannot pin her things to Pinterest?

ReplyDeleteI ordered yesterday, too.
ReplyDeleteBut it's snowing here this morning so I was compelled to place another order for several more inks.
What? That makes perfect sense to me.
Makes sense to me, Lion. As kids, we always liked lots of snow in December, because snow made my mom go out and buy more gifts!

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a login for the CS site? Just wondering if you can see complaints in the forum there.
There aren't many complaints on the CS site. THe most noticable thing is that post go unanswered for DAYS!
ReplyDeleteThis forum was just a way to make complaints go unseen.
PTI's treatment of customers has done it for me. I don't think very highly of anyone at PTI.
Thanks for the link, 3:27. I really should let them know they lost the business, and why.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the online A Muse sale is continuing. The code you need is "annual sale".
ReplyDeleteYou mean Impress Stamps, right?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. Impress. I am tracking my A Muse package and misspoke. BTW, I ordered my A Muse package yesterday morning and it is probably going to be delivered today. How can that even happen!
ReplyDeleteThe DTs sound like they're talking to themselves.....
ReplyDeleteYeah, lots of green on the forum.
ReplyDeleteSo what did you guys order from Impress? Did anyone buy the Memory Box patterned paper? Or have it? Does it match with the Fresh Ink colors?
I just got an email re: the sale today. And am thinking.... thinking.....
No conflict at all makes for a very boring forum. I think they scared everyone out of disagreeing with anything, even how many glue dots to use!
ReplyDeleteI bought a ton of ink from Impress on Sunday night and I just got the shipping notice (a real one). I have my eye on a couple of dies.
ReplyDeleteI ordered a bunch of inks from Impress (8, I think) and one stamp. I couldn't resist that adorable Eiffel Tower (5255H is the item #).
ReplyDeleteI ordered 6 inks and 8 refills, one die, and 4 packages of the gingham Memory Box packets, and a few little bits of this and that, from Impress.
ReplyDeleteOrdered 2 inks and 2 refills, and one package of assorted gingham cardstock from A Muse.
Anyone else see another ink debacle brewing over at PTI? First there was the post about Smokey Shadow and now a couple people are noticing an issue with the Lemon Tart and Harvest Gold.
ReplyDeleteI remember Nichole saying that the containers developed cracks but that just made it easier to open them.
ReplyDeleteThat told me all I needed to know.
Sounds like Nichole. Also, cracks let the sun shine in you know.
ReplyDeletei wasn't going to but ended up ordering from Impress......got a memory box die, raindrop stamp, TH texture things and something else i cant remember.
ReplyDeleteSure, cracks in the ink cases makes them better! What were they smoking when they came up with that one?
ReplyDelete"I remember Nichole saying that the containers developed cracks but that just made it easier to open them.
ReplyDeleteThat told me all I needed to know."
Okay, who was holding the stopwatch on ink issues?!! LOL!!!
This comment on the cracks is just mind-numbing. I think I know what kind of crack the people at Pti are into and it has nothing to do with ink pads.
LOL, 16:48!!!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to share another example of good customer service in the wake of a supply problem.
At the end of February, I order the new TH Distress Markers from iCopic on a preorder. It was a good price with free shipping but there were many orders before mine.
There has been a supply issue and I have received several updates on the status of my preorder.
Yesterday I received this:
Ranger is continuing to work day and night to manufacture the Distress Marker Single markers and sets and has recently provided us with pictures of their staff putting the sets together.
Shame...
ReplyDeleteInk Stink - thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check iCopic out.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me...I wanted to share a PTI-like customer service issue I encountered recently.
ReplyDeleteWow, this place is quiet...
ReplyDeleteRandom question of the day: What is your #1 online place to buy, now that you don't spend all of your money at PTI?
^^ I am still trying to find my new place. So far this year I have spent a crap load of money at Ellen Hutson, Impress, EK Success, and random 3rd parties at Amazon. I also want to try out Clear & Simple stamps. WPlus9 and WMS look good, but I don't think they have enough product for me to spend "big bucks" on.
uh-oh...another reported case of random cart dumping in PTI-land and they locked that thread down tight as a drum.
ReplyDeleteMust not point out the Emperor has no clothes....
Let's just all register from the new Zen forum and bombard it with all our issues.10 bucks says they keep it up and running for a week before they decide to shut it down due to 'technical difficulties' caused by the Zen service that is 'beyond their control'.
ReplyDeleteI want to slowly try the fresh inks. What color matches PTI's Rasberry Fizz and Hawaiian Shores?
ReplyDeleteSeparating my stamp sets by category has shown me that I have absolutely no reason to be spending big bucks with anyone any more. And indexing my inks showed me that I already own over 200(!) ink pads, so I have no excuse for buying more of those either. I'm going to do my best to not get sucked into another "big bucks" store again. I'm trying to restrict my spending to consumables and filling in certain gaps. Wish me luck.
ReplyDeleteChris - seriously, good luck. I said the same thing 2 years ago and yet here I am. I hope you exercise more restraint than I have been able to.
ReplyDeleteI've spent all my PTI money at Simon Says Stamp. I can get a mix of products from different companies at once + papers and embellishments etc. and the shipping is extremely reasonable (international). They ALWAYS email you if there is a problem and respond to questions.
ReplyDeleteI ordered 27ink pads and received the shipping notice today. First time to order their inks and if it's as wonderful as everyone says, I'll get the rest to complete the colors.
ReplyDeleteWish they offered free shipping though because if they did I would've ordered the dies and stamps too. lol!
21:09 here.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say I ordered 27 Fresh ink pads from Impress.
I have never known anyone to be disappointed in the quality of Fresh Inks or in Impress Customer Service.
ReplyDeleteIf any of you ever get a chance to visit the largest of the Impress Stores in Tukwilla, WA, plan on being there for hours. It has such cool stuff! I go there about every 3-4 months when we go to Seattle for medical appointments.
